@cosmic matrix: That's the mix of dust and tobacco smoke that's penetrated the woodwork.

This Saturday, Sept. 23 Loew's will present two titles:

“Lilies of the Field” starring Sidney Poitier; 1963 -- at 6PM;

followed by

“Superman” starring Christopher Reeve, Gene Hackman, Margot Kidder, Marlon Brando; 1978 -- at 8PM.
  7:21pm
Emily:

Kate! WE didn't record it there, but it is a recording of an organist playing this very organ in this very theater!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm
cosmic matrix:

now we're talkin'
Avatar 7:23pm

I was there before the renovations had really begun. Our host mentioned that they thought the lobby chandelier had such lovely amber crystals. Then when they started cleaning it, they realized they were clear - the color was from decades of tobacco smoke.

What’s the connection in the shows the Loew's are playing? With all the terrible destruction from hurricanes in the news, we thought it would be reassuring to remember a couple of Supermen – one, a super hero; the other, just a man who does something super.

A portion of the proceeds from each screening will be donated to hurricane relief efforts.

Because of the short lead time, we won't be able to do a lot of advertising, so we're asking people to help spread the word on social media and the old fashioned way.

(Both will be screened digitally, also necessitated by the short lead time.)

The 1978 Superman is STILL the BEST superhero movie.
Avatar 7:26pm
TehBadDr:

Certainly it has a life of it's own, and the souls that still dwell there!
  7:27pm
Emily:

Cosmic: you are so correct--we are still learning how to "bed music" effectively!
  7:27pm
Kate:

Bob and the organ. Should be the name of a short story.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm

It's tricky. Or you could use sidechain compression (ducking). Sounds great!

Avatar 7:33pm

This guys voice was so interesting. He is mostly deaf, but I don't know if that is why his voice is so unique.
