listener james from westwood:

It will be a hard hiatus for us, but I hope it will be a fruitful one for you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:04am
Amanda Nazario:

Thank you for saying so! Welcome all listeners respecting
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05am
listener james from westwood:

Plus IIRC we have Kurt coming in that stretch? That'll be a lovely residency.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05am
Amanda:

That is true! I hope everyone will make Kurt Gottschalk feel very comfy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06am
Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Amanda. Nice to have met you at the Garbecue. I'm awkward with introductions, I'm afraid. It was my first time at a WFMU function, but hopefully not the last.
  9:08am
Rich in NC:

Good morning all------Hi Amanda ---I am heading out to take my Dad to the eye doctor --i will catch you all in the archives --have a great show --peace out --Rich
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am
Amanda:

Rich -- Peace in the middle east and at the eye doctor too, thankx for checking in.

@Ken HP- So nice to meet you, glad you decided to come by!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am
listener james from westwood:

The more I hear about FMU-based events, the more I wish I lived closer. Would that Monty Hall things and volunteering were just pop-in affairs!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am
Stevel:

Good morning. Love the photo. Properly jealous of folks that can physically connect with WFMU and its denizens! Sounds like the Garbeque was a good time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19am
Uncle Michael:

Day off! Packing for a trip! Scenario!
  9:21am
steve:

hello!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am
Amanda:

Happiness Is getting to go away and having a day off, hello @steve and @Stevel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29am
listener james from westwood:

Oh,. wow, is this from "Short Circuit"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am
Amanda:

YES! It totally was. Johnny of course being the robot's name. But I chose the song on its own merits.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am
listener james from westwood:

I like that the new Ghostbusters used "Rhythm of the Night" in one bit, sort of linking the film back to the 80s.
  9:32am
JakeGould:

Hey!
  9:35am
JakeGould:

“Short Circuit” is a decent cultural reference but what a crappy film.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am
Uncle Michael:

My cat Maggie lived to be 19.5. I knew she was deaf when she stopped fleeing the vacuum cleaner.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am
Amanda:

@UM ours is 14, and has always been terrified of the vacuum cleaner but was less so yesterday... hmm...
  9:45am
JakeGould:

Young cats that go deaf are scary. They become skittish since they never hear anything coming.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am
Amanda:

@JakeGould re Short Circuit being a not-good film, tell that to the hundreds who post fan art to the Short Circuit fansite! (It is the best thing about Short Circuit I can identify)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am
Jeff Golick:

Took our young pup to off-leash time in the park this morning - our first time! - and he was about as happy as that dog in the photo.

Morning, all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am
Amanda:

Heya Jeff! Congrats on off-leash time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am
Uncle Johnny 5:

I am sporting a tremendous tinny.
  9:49am
JakeGould:

@Amanda: I know the fan community for that film is passionate. I respect it. Just… anyway!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am
Amanda:

@Jeff G does your pup play with other dogs, or just run around in the park?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am
Jeff Golick:

He's very social - likes to hang and tussle with other dogs. Also fond of saying hi to the owners.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am
Jeff Golick:

(Hasn't met any cows yet, though.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am
Jeff Golick:

@UM: where to?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am
Uncle Michael:

Chicago
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11am
Jeff Golick:

How many trips to Comiskey?

(I kid.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am
Sean from Bridgeport:

Hiatus? I was not aware. Hope everything is OK and nothing serious is the cause of this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14am
Uncle Michael:

Three trips to Wrigley, smart guy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am
Jeff Golick:

That was my real question, @UM. Awesome!

DIRTBOMBS!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am
Amanda:

@Sean - Nope, everything's great! You should know by now that very little about anything I do is serious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22am
listener james from westwood:

Each decade brings new reasons to be thankful for Los Straitjackets.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am
Uncle Michael:

Show of hands, who saw ARS, live?
Avatar 10:28am
KP:

Mom's Apple Pie was Grand Funk Railroad/Terry Knight related.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30am
listener james from westwood:

Mmmmm, Orton.
Avatar 10:30am
Marc Francis:

This song. What a cracker!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32am
Amanda:

@KP, cool! Thanks for edifying. Shows what I know!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am
Amanda:

Glad to see a groundswell of support for the Beth Orton, I love that song too (and I almost played a different one instead)!
Avatar 10:38am
steve:

Beth Orton's music was actually in two late 90s early 00s skateboard videos i used to watch on vhs
Avatar 10:44am
steve:

wait ALL of it has been mailed out? did i hear that right? i still havent got mine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am
Amanda:

Maybe not all of it! Especially if you got a lot of swag, it will take a little longer. But, soon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am
JtotheK:

The Trammps! I dig their 'Hold Back the Night' track. Also, didn't they do a version of Zing Went the Strings (callback to Coasters spun earlier)?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am
Jeff Golick:

Where do the unhappy people go? Oh wait [looks around]...here they are!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am
JtotheK:

oh, and hello Amanda, hi everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am
Amanda:

Hi JtotheK! Hope you're well! Ha, I haven't heard that Coasters cover, but I believe it. The Trammps had that one guy with a DEEP voice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55am
Little Danny:

Mornin' Amanda and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am
JtotheK:

how do, Danny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am
Amanda:

Good morning Danny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58am
Amanda:

@Jeff They're all unhappy here because I played that Apple Pie 45
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am
Jeff Golick:

Aw, I don't think so. Also, to clarify, the "here" in my comment was my workplace, not the happy confines of this show/playlist!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am
Amanda:

I knoooooow, I'm just kidding :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am
Jeff Golick:

(I'm missing my cues.)
  11:15am
JakeGould:

Nothing wrong with the smell of pretzel.
  11:16am
Rich in NC:

Pop can see like a eagle---I am back for Simpsons time---all is right with my world
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am
listener james from westwood:

I'm realizing I've made two GIFs from this ep for various Twitter purposes: both Lenny giving the thumbs-up and the capper of the fire gag later when the cereal bursts aflame.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am
Ken From Hyde Park:

"Hello, Mr. Burns? This is your mother!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am
listener james from westwood:

I can't tell you how many times I've uttered "Out of my way, I'm a motorist!" during a driving-oriented videogame. And then run into another player or some random pedestrian.
Avatar 11:25am
steve:

such a great one. i love above all else Lenny's drunken open mouthed smile and thumbs up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am
listener james from westwood:

"And here's the rod we'll be inserting into your spine!" ::snap::
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am
doctorjazz:

Hi all. My late entry (got to listen some in the car).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am
doctorjazz:

Training a new puppy, 3 month old, she's torturing our 8 year old dog, but he's being a pretty good sport.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am
listener james from westwood:

I can only imagine I'm misremembering a bunch of them, and that others have been subject to drift as friends and I have exchanged them for ages.

And I remember that line as, "_Pow_, second encore." So I was wrong on the "Bam" count.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am
listener james from westwood:

My friends also imagined for YEARS that at one point, in some episode, Homer turns to Marge and whines, "But, Marge, I wanna go to the beer garden!" No such line.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am
Amanda:

Whoa! That's a good one @James. And actually, I think Nelson does indeed say "Pow."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am
listener james from westwood:

THIS was Paul McCartney?! ::mind_blown.gif::
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am
doctorjazz:

Would never have gusessed Paul either...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am
Amanda:

Oop, he says "bam" according to Frinkiac.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am
listener james from westwood:

See, perfect example of Simpsons Rashomonization. Not to be confused with Rastafying.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am
doctorjazz:

The long version of "...Rainbow", always really liked this album, wasn't so well received (Stones trying to out-psychedelic the Beatles).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am
Jeff Golick:

Charlie really brings it on this one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am
Amanda:

@doctorjazz, congrats on the new puppy! What kind of doggie is it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am
Amanda:

Pretty sure "Rainbow" is my favorite Stones song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am
doctorjazz:

A Mini-labradoodle (we have dog allergy problems in my family...while I don't think there is such a thing as a totally non-allergenic dog, we have done well with these breeds as far as allergy goes, and they're the BEST pets!).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am
doctorjazz:

The older is an 8 year old full size Labradoodle. He's a smoosh!
Avatar 11:50am

oh heck yeah. i love the disco version of this song by Macho... never heard this one!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am

Labradoodles are great, I agree.

Just took a walk through a sleepy, overcast beach town on the South Fork of Long Island. This first number was perfect soundtrack in the headphones.
