I can't resist a bean bag chair.

I can't get up out of them...but I can't resist them.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm
coelacanth∅:

Uncle Michael, maybe you're not getting up for a fresh drink as often as i. i'm quite happy to try this cherrywood prince chair with mother of pearl inlay for the evening. (though i could use a cushion)

I recently grabbed a Machito LP called Asia Minor Cha Cha Cha, it's pretty decent. not as good as what you just played or his other best stuff. you heard it, LD?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm
coelacanth∅:

Danny, things are moving! how's it with thee?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm
Little Danny:

I got rid of that LP some time ago, Flash - I seem to remember a lot of pretty uninspired chas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm
Little Danny:

@coel: Movement is at the very least not stasis. And, thanks, I'm doing well now that I'm here!
Avatar 10:21pm
Flash Strap:

i was afraid you'd say that, I've been trying to talk myself into it but it hasn't been working. damn it, you're right, it's not too good

MrFab:

That butane song sounded like Hank Hill selling propane and propane accessories to the people of this community.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm
Little Danny:

Haha, sorry to disabuse you, Flash!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm

MrF! All propane-related songs are encouraged here

Man, hatin' my lateness. As beanbag alternative,... was visiting someone minding a three year old who had a giant panda that could go face down as a substantial soft mound for lounging. I could totally go panda.
Avatar 10:47pm
geezerette:

super digging this set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm
Little Danny:

I could go full panda pretty much any time. Hi still b/p!

Uncle Michael, there's a twist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm
Little Danny:

I love that, still b/p - I often visualize scenarios like "'60s party" when I put this show together. This is absolutely true.
Avatar 10:56pm
still b/p:

I think Bossa Nova Watusi is a mob term for a position or rank, like capo di tutti capi.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm

Haha, yeah! Right below Boogaloo Hot Pants but still above Wobble Twist
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm

This is a 45. So awesome, so crazy that it was released that way. Even for 1969
  11:09pm
Dean:

I'm trying to imagine where it might have appeared on a jukebox.
Avatar 11:09pm
still b/p:

Heard a few details of the Alice story just the other day, how she just quit professional music for a long while, until a few years before she died.
  11:09pm
Dean:

Al's Bar, east of downtown LA, c.1978. It would have appeared there.
Avatar 11:10pm
geezerette:

So glad this is back in circulation.
Avatar 11:11pm
geezerette:

Cheers to it Dean.
  11:12pm
Dean:

Picked up an LP last weekend of railroad engine sounds, steam and diesel, for two bucks. Glorious recording, vinyl is good shape, can't lose.
  11:13pm
Dean:

You know Al's Bar, geezerette?
Avatar 11:16pm

Yes indeed Dean. The old, undeveoped DT no man's lamd was my turf. Miss it, of course.Miss the freedom.l

MrFab:

Oh my gawd, my fellow LA lowlifes are in da house! Remember Gorkys?
  11:19pm
Dean:

Love that place.

Hey, MrFab, I do remember Gorky's, and I know geezerette does, too. I used to do homework at both joints.
  11:20pm
Dean:

Gorky's spawned a brewery way the hell back before it was etc.
Avatar 11:20pm
geezerette:

OMG MrFab, many breakfasts at Gorky's and sometimes Vickman's.
  11:21pm
Dean:

Borscht at 3:00 a.m.

Dean, yes, brewery, ahead of Brooklyn,
Beers & borscht, so funny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24pm
Little Danny:

Al's Bar sounds magical. My imagination is already running with it
  11:24pm
Dean:

'twas.
  11:25pm
MrFab:

Ha ha! To give our fellow Flamers a sense of what downtown Los Angeles used to be like: I once thought I'd check out a decent-sized used book store - went in to discover it was all used PORN. Blech! On a stretch of Main that's gentrified now of course.
  11:26pm
MrFab:

What WOULD Bukowski think of gentrified LA?
  11:29pm
Dean:

There was one very impressive bookstore downtown, Caravan, I think. Rare books, i.e., expensive, marketed to the lawyers. When I worked in downtown LA and hung out there at the peak of LA punk it was otherwise utterly boring, dead. I left in 2001, by which time it was showing signs of life (the dreaded gentrification) and now...I have no idea. Al's closed about a year after we left. A sad moment.
  11:32pm
MrFab:

Caravan is still in business, thanks to the city's support. And it still a recommended stop: vintage postcards, art, ancient tomes...
Avatar 11:33pm
geezerette:

It's an unsustainable fantasy land now. Bukowski would have a heart attack, It's beautiful in its way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm

Stellar set Danny! right up my alley. (my panda likes it too)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42pm

i think it's you! it's hard to tell...an organic instrumental?
  11:42pm

Every week? Hmmm, maybe this show should run daily, then.

Don't get me started. I'm Luddite to the core.
