That's the windows cleaned and my 'Vote Green' poster up.

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:29am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I like how distinctive Mingus is - his own particular corner of Jazz - bridging BigBand & Out - how complete & overall his conception...& how artfully he sublimates being so pissed-off...
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:30am

Mingus was "out" before there was such a thing in Jazz (leaving out some Tristano experiments and one of's), but Cecil and Ornette tagged pay him.

No! Jeff, you've got to hear Pre-Bird (or sometimes Mingus Revisited). It's a 5-star album, one of his ten best, IMO
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am

Funny how some people I know dismiss Mingus as old-school and basically reactionary, yet worship Sclavis
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am
Jeff Golick:

Will try to remedy, @Scraps! Thanks.

@fred: Mingus was a complicated cat. There's plenty to react to there, in whatever way you'd like...

End of rave for Pre-Bird: it's got Dolphy, -and- Curson, -and- Lateef!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am
fred:

@Jeff: Well, I hear he used to be interesting, but for a while he's been kind of a museum act. Maybe I've been unlucky but I was very bored every time I saw him, gave up about 10 years ago
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am
Jeff Golick:

Ah. Thanks for that. I've only experienced him via album, and jumping around in time, so maybe his ossification is less apparent to me.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:50am
doctorjazz:

Interesting discography on Pre Bird... Mingus had most of his music on a number of labels, the biggest number on Atlantic and COLUMBIA. Pre Bird was a one of on Mercury. Sounds like one of these collected odds and ends things from the title, but it wasn't. So, it is possible to have box sets of all his major music (I have Mosaic sets and others that are "complete-), and still miss this one. Have to get me one as well...
Avatar 10:52am

I haven't tried Sclavis yet (so many!), but I'm fascinated by a band called La Marmite Infernale . . . . !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am

@Jeff: Don't take my words too seriously: last time I saw him he had a bass player slapping, so that was the proverbial straw. I probably overreacted.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am

He's got a brand new one on ECM. I like one called, I think, "Clarinettes" or similar.
Avatar 10:53am

Probably SclAHvis, that would be the french way, though I'm not sure it applies
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:56am

I was told two weeks ago, the budget should be allocated in two weeks minimum, so, I'm supposed to get a call on Monday on the time schedule on that. I have another one I have a round two phone interview for a decent job in Tamoa. Prefer not to go to Tampa, as it's a giant sprawling-ass suburb of a city that is based on car culture. In Gainesville, I can ride my bike everywhere (and I have many friends).

I got instructions to getting to our new works space. It's drive up to the level 3 of the parking structure, fob in, and take the elevator down to UM. My brain yelled "Uncle Michael!" WFMU is going to help me remember how to get to work on Tuesday morning.
