The edge of town. Photo taken earlier today by Natalie Melendez.

There was a desert wind blowing that night. It was one of those hot dry Santa Anas that come down through the mountain passes and curl your hair and make your nerves jump and your skin itch. On nights like that every booze party ends in a fight. Meek little wives feel the edge of the carving knife and study their husbands' necks. Anything can happen. You can even get a full glass of beer at a cocktail lounge.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm

Never too late coel. Come visit us in Marfa!
  10:12pm
MrFab:

That "Echo Valley" is a good example of the transition from Western to surf. Lots of "surf" was just hormonally energized Western tunes like "Apache." From Link Wray's "Commanche" > Ventures covering Chet Atkins ("Walk Dont Run") > Surfaris.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm
Doug Schulkind:

The flame is cool and it is blue. Everything is right with the world.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm

Yeah, the Western-surf overlap is interesting.

and this dynamics is fantastic. though i have to stop looking up these 45s, as this appears to be another 'unattainable' 45.
  10:55pm
MrFab:

I know the feeling JtotheK. Looking up some of the tunes from the CD premium makes me wish I'd pledged more so i could have got it.

Atmospheric guitar-based instrumentals keep pulling me back into the hot wind this evening. Hope y'all are diggin' this groove
Avatar 📉 Swag For Life Member 11:16pm
JtotheK:

i know nothing about the guitar instro music you've been spinning but have been enjoying, very much.
Avatar 📉 Swag For Life Member 11:18pm
JtotheK:

and internet research on that converters 45 - genre descriptions include rockabilly, exotica, and instro noir. i may have to look for other 45s in the "instro noir" genre. seems adjacent to the "crime jazz" genre.
  11:19pm
MrFab:

Heck ya Im diggin it. I live in Raymond Chandler-ville, after all.

An instro version of "Surfin Tragedy"! Have you heard the goofy vocal versions?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm
Little Danny:

It's possible you came upon my own recent eBay auction of said record, Jason. I described it as "instro noir."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm
Little Danny:

MrF, I think I have heard at least one version, but I tend to blot out novelties
Avatar 📉 Swag For Life Member 11:22pm
JtotheK:

@dan, i believe you are correct! my internet research of course leads right back here. ha!
Avatar 📉 Swag For Life Member 11:23pm

b/w another 45 described as instro noir was Rene Hall 'Night Fright'. Don't know it, will have to check out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm
Little Danny:

Haha, that Rene Hall write-up was mine, too!
Avatar 📉 Swag For Life Member 11:28pm
