Flash Strap:

oh my god i've never heard this Kenyon Hopkins
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm
Little Danny:

@Flash: "Outer Islands" is unfortunately the only real winner from that LP
  10:10pm
MrFab:

Yo Flamers! Yeah, those Sound Tour albums mix field recordings/sound fx with music of the respective country. I have the Italy one.
  10:12pm
Pete from Melbourne Austraila:

Hi Danny & Listeners, wow this Santo & Johnny-esque intstro by Kaiwaza Wild is great, reminds me a lot of forgotten 60's Aussie Lap Steel star Robbie Porter, who had a hit down he here in 63 or so "55 Days at Peeking
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm
Little Danny:

Good evening MrF, thanks for being here! I think the Hawaii edition is the only Sound Tour LP I have. How is the Italy LP?
Avatar 10:13pm
Flash Strap:

I'm disappointed to hear that, but I believe it. "Hawaiian Dream" was worthy of a backflip, btw
  10:13pm
Doctorjazz:

Great sounds... going to have to call it a night as well, catch you in the archives..

"Sound Tour: Italy" is interesting as an audio postcard, but not something I reach for too often.

Pete from Melbourne Austraila:

Your call on the programming Danny, but mo Willis Jackson, if possible.
Danny Robbie Porter became a very successful music excec, down here in the 70's, '55 Days at Peeking' was a big hit, but not typical of his style, most of his other stuff was Hawaiian style Lap Steel instros, square, but cool!

Nice stuff BTW, loved the Willis Jackson, his late 50's through late 60's output is fantastic, think I got all his LP's from that period, all rule! Great bands, McDuff, Pat Martino, Bill Jennings etc!

this program is always educational. for example, my internet research for the inell young 45 turned up a credit to eddie bo. b/w that darling dears is so great, the drums on both sides are fantastic!
  10:30pm
MrFab:

Or how 'bout: what do you think Poison ivy Rorschach is listening to right now?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm
Little Danny:

Oh, man, I forgot to mention that Inell Young was an Eddie Bo production - seems like an important thing
Avatar 10:42pm
Scraps:

I only find on the Sound Tour thing additional Tours of Spain and France (also by Hopkins)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm
Little Danny:

@MrF: I remember Poison Ivy mentioned her love of dreamy doowop in one of those ISM volumes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm

This Billy Paul is so damn intense
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm
Little Danny:

@Scraps: it's nice that that allaboutjazz write-up didn't totally pan the Kenyon Hopkins LPs, which are decidedly easy listening and a soft target
  11:01pm
MrFab:

This song is like: Hello, Mose Allison, we salute you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm

also that Margie Joseph is outstanding, love that 45, Willie Tee wrote it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm
Little Danny:

@Kris, yes and yes! To my knowledge Joseph never recorded anything else that sounded like that side. Right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
doctorjazz:

Thanks Little Danny, happy listening to what you're spinning (I can play stuff I know any time, FMU let's me hear different stuff in a different way, stuff I may not know). Enjoying the sounds!
Avatar 11:17pm
Kris Holmes:

Dan, you don't have the one immediately before it on Volt? Also Willie Tee & also outstanding it's called "Nobody" the flip is a great Bobby Womack track called "What You Gonna Do". Those two 45s, are her first two on Volt & the only two cut in NOLA & are the two to have.
  11:19pm
Edwina:

Some fine tunes happening. Thanks, deejay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm

Since we all need some up lifting stuff in these scary times (not that the tunes your playing arent uplifting!) but was going to suggest a couple of Spiritual Jazz tunes.
Jazz violinist Michael White's, The Blessing Song from Pneuma LP 1972 on Impulse &
Doug Carns & Jean Carns on vocals, Little B's Poem 1971 on Black Jazz

Dig that Rev Jackson cut Stand by Me, killer!
