Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm
Little Danny:

Coel: I love Mose but I actually don't know specific artists who influenced him early on. Now I'm curious - any of you google hounds want to look into this?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm
coelacanth∅:

i'll give it a shot, but i think this one will end up being speculative.
Avatar 10:21pm
geezerette:

I'm just going to sit in this corner booth with a few martinis and draw on cocktail napkins with my shades on.
Avatar 10:21pm
Kris Holmes:

Pee Wee Crayton was pretty big at that time in the early 50s, those Modern/Aladdin/Imperial sides were popular & R&B hits, so it's entirely possible
Avatar 10:25pm
Flash Strap:

hahahaa I have listened to hours of consecutive Slim Gaillard tracks before.... end to end till it all made sense... I guess I have the constitution for it! Love his philological, glossolaliac ways
Avatar 10:27pm
Kris Holmes:

In high school he listened to the music of Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, Louis Jordan, and his prime inspiration, Nat Cole of the King Cole Trio. playing piano and singing in a style influenced by Nat Cole, Louis Jordan and Erroll Garner. blending the raw blues of his childhood with modern pianistic influences of John Lewis, Thelonius Monk and Al Haig. His vocal style was influenced by blues singers Percy Mayfield and Charles Brown.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm
Little Danny:

That's awesome Flash. I don't know why I chose Gaillard to dump on
Avatar 10:28pm
Kris Holmes:

Nat Cole, Charles Brown & Percy Mayfield are pretty telling signposts for Mose.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm

i'm trying to think but back in the mid-90s there was a great series of CD comps that i think Capitol put out in cardboard covers (digi paks) with cartoon illustrations on the front, i have the Crayton one in storage & it is outstanding, all the Imperial sides. It's his best stuff.

really there needs to be a drink called the Cool Blue Flame. seems like it should be rum and tropical fruit based, with some blue curacao for color. topped with a high proof rum floater that gets lit on fire?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm

i've never heard of a "ramos fizz". but not surprising. i tend to keep the mixtures simple. (though i suppose bringing my own bottled juice as a mixer already may complicate things)
