On November 20, 1955, Dr. Jive [Tommy Smalls] was booked on the newly-renamed "Ed Sullivan Show" (formerly "The Toast Of The Town") to bring 15 minutes of R&B into the nation's collective living room. He brought the 5 Keys (singing "Ling, Ting, Tong"; they had wanted to do "Close Your Eyes," but "Ling Ting Tong" was specifically requested by Ed Sullivan's daughters!), Lavern Baker, Willis "Gator Tail" Jackson's Orchestra, and Bo Diddley. For some unknown reason, Sullivan got it into his head that Bo Diddley should sing "Sixteen Tons," instead of one of his own songs. That afternoon, everyone showed up to rehearse, and Bo was kept practicing for around four hours (they even pasted the lyrics on the stage itself, so he wouldn't have to memorize them). However, when he got on stage, he simply decided to sing "Bo Diddley," with its pounding Juba beat, instead of "Sixteen Tons." This absolutely infuriated Sullivan (which Bernie [of the Five Keys] will attest to; they were standing near him in the wings) and he never had Diddley on again. (Of course, to put it into perspective, the 5 Keys did exactly what Sullivan told them to and he never had them on again either!)

"In 1958 Allen Bunn entered the recording studio again, this time renamed Tarheel Slim, under the aegis of producer Bobby Robinson and with Wild Jimmy Spruill on guitar and Horace Cooper on piano cut his greatest record, a two sided monster-- Wildcat Tamer b/w Number 9 Train, issued on Robinson's Fury label, it remains one of the pinnacles of New York rock'n'roll. Both sides feature Slim's burning guitar, with Spruill's scratchy rhythm guitar driving both tunes at full steam, they remain the type of classic performances that never sound old or dated . . . "

When Rochester native and former Dotsun Moon vocalist Mary Ognibene contacted The Lost Patrol’s Stephen Masucci over the winter of 2014-2015 about experimenting with some music, the plan was to record a song or two. After coming to the conclusion that their first song sounded promising, Ognibene and Masucci (along with The Lost Patrol’s Michael Williams and Tony Mann) decided to take the recording process one step further. Seven months later, the debut CD, Tomorrow is Never by The Lovely Intangibles is out for worldwide release.

“The intention was to record a cut or two, but shortly into the process, we realized the viability of putting out something a bit more substantive as a proper full-length. Michael and Tony were eager to press forward and brought in some ideas of their own, and we were also fortunate enough to enlist bass virtuoso Jon Camp (Renaissance) on a track.” says Masucci.

The Lovely Intangibles expand upon musical themes set forth by The Lost Patrol, but take the music into breezier skies. Guitars still cascade with endless flutter into the reverb-drenched void while heart-stopping bass and synthesized soundscapes envelop you.

In 2014 Animals organist Alan Price started a YouTube channel, where he posts home videos of some of his solo work. In addition, Price performs with his band, mostly at his long-established monthly spot at the Bull's Head, Barnes, London.
