Sorry I was a little tardy with the playlist, folks. All's well now. Welcome Simon and friends.

It's true; the world's in a helluva state. Or the state's in a helluva world. Here's a thing from William Saletan st The Slate:

"This is the central thing to understand about what happened in Dallas: Black people who target whites are fundamentally allied with white people who target blacks. They’re on the same team: the race war team. It’s a lot like the global struggle over jihadism, in which Muslims who hate Christians collaborate, in effect, with Christians who hate Muslims. In the case of jihadism, the real struggle isn’t between two religions. It’s between people who want religious war and people who don’t. The same is true of race: Either you’re on the race war team, or you’re against it."

Singer Neil Tennant of the Pet Shop Boys is 62. Banjo player Bela Fleck of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones is 58. Guitarist Peter DiStefano of Porno for Pyros is 51.

Zappa's music is not played enough on WFMU. Thanks, Mark R!

Even at this late date, the between-song patter on those Janis tracks is infinitely sad to me. I was watching the concert in San Francisco where it was announced that she had been found dead.

Jes' gettin' this in, in case Mark don't play it:

It was late last night the other day
I thought I'd go up and see Ray
So l went up and I saw Ray
There was only one thing Ray could say, was

I, I don't want a pickle
I just want to ride on my motorcycle
And I don't want a tickle
I'd rather ride on my motorcycle
And I don't want to die
Just want to ride on my motorcycle

Late last week I was on my bike
I run into a friend named Mike
Run into my friend named Mike
Mike no longer has a bike, he cries

I don't want a pickle
Just want to ride on my motorcycle
And I don't want a tickle
'Cause I'd rather ride on my motorcycle
And I don't want to die
Just want to ride on my motorcycle

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38am

riding a bike is so not a good idea when one's drunk-ish; but it's so tempting - as the cops rarely ever chase a bike.
(and it's so fun!)

I have a feeling that this birthday stuff is annoying the DJ, that the focus of the show, beside the music, is a music calendar generally. I so, I beg your pardon.

The original release was heavily sweetened. This is the raw recording, where his mic wasn't working at the beginning. Just for a change of pace. Casting a new light on an old favorite. I still love the original "Woodstock" album, though. Carefully and lovingly crafted together out of miles of tapes, they did a great job!
