Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from June 24, 2016 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Goo' morning. Don't think I recognized Hot Canary, but...well, it completes me. Regarding cartoon/life reference and integration and influence -- I was trying yesterday to figure out how succinctly I could describe Clyde Crashcup (and his Richard Haydn-mimicking voice) and his shtick to someone as an example of a character option they might try in stage performance.

I've always been interested in cartoon music, and the large amounts of Raymond Scott played on WFMU was attractive to me! Carl Stalling's soundtracks for Warners, bereft of Mel Blanc and other voices are on the Carl Stalling Project recordings. At MGM, Scott Bradley did admirable work. Then there's also the great Fleischer Brothers sound tracks. The idea of an almost free associative yet rigorously programmatic music is very appealing!

I recently heard an interview with ... somebody (again, didn't stick) ... regarding Newport (not Manchester). The interviewee tried to argue that the booing at Newport had nothing to do with Dylan's going electric. Rather, it had to do with an extreme delay in the band's appearance and a really short show, because the band had only rehearsed at moment's notice a few tunes. Or something to that effect.

Also, we've spoken of auctions and the Maine coast and proofreading. This involves all three:
a video for auction of very a high end property on the island Isleboro boasts of the region's early sun and says, “…that's because these islands are 300 miles farther east than any other point in the United States."
That's crazy wrong, unless I'm confused, it's bafflingly waaaaaay off. Even Doug will be farther east in Stonington; much of the NE United States is within 300 miles. I can't figure what angle of geography, distance or common sense got kerflugled. Among all the people involved, no one said, "Wait a minute..."
A little proofing, maybe, when you're pitching a many-million dollar product...?

Doug Schulkind:

Four losses in a row, and you're headed to rehab? It's a long season, Uncle Michael! Not six hours long, but pretty long.

You are my hero, Uncle M. I should take more vacations, just to hear you make such outsize brilliant radio.

This archive is just 5:46:28 long when it BREXITS 90 seconds into Vanity Fare . . . .
which still tours - not with anyone on the hits, but their drummer who retired last year went back to 1972.
