A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

I worked at my town library in high school! Though I read a lot more now than I did then.

The L shutdown is way off in the future, because salt water damage (from Sandy) is progressive. The L infrastructure is very, very, very slowly decaying due to that damage... but it's not an immediate issue *right now*. First they have to close a bunch of sections of the M and fix THAT! It sounds like the D.C. Metro is in MUCH worse shape.

Yeah @Sphere, the NYC subway delayed maintenance thru much of the mid-20th century, but fortunately they woke up and started fixing shit in the... 90s? I think? Thus we are not as utterly f!cked as you are. :/
Avatar 10:41am
just dc pat:

they should let dc metro just fall to pieces and die. THen all the commuters from the suburbs would have to drive and then get so insanely frustrated they'd all kill each other. Then there would be no reason for roads for the cars and we could just make them all bikes-only. Then everything would be great.
