i recorded "the shining path"off wfmu a few decades ago by a different artist. i've looked around, asked around; but not knowing the lyric so little to go on.
i heard yet another version once coming from the kitchen of a korean restaurant where the kitchen people are all hispanic. i've thought about playing my cassettes for them to see if they knew.
...and here it is! Thank you!
(i do still want to find the version that i have though)

Anoushka Shankar played here in Topeka once. he was very good. At the time, I was working for a company that had local hotel franchises, including the Ramada where she stayed. Her rider required her promoter to book her the largest suite. The hotel has two large suites, one is ever so slightly larger than the other, due to a quirk of the architecture. Someone on staff let slip that she was in the smaller of the two and there was hell to pay. Yes, she was moved to an identical suite that was about four square feet bigger because its footprint didn't include a particular support between two picture windows along an exterior wall.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm

*She was very good.

She was also a diva.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm
coelacanth:

back in the day i'd go directly to the schanachie records facility in newton nj. the manager liked me and let me browse the warehouse like it was a record store. what i saved on shipping -which was my motivation to drive 3 hours total to buy music -i'd triple in additional purchases.
...that's where i discovered mahmoud ahmed -another ethiopian Great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm
melinda:

I don't think the companion was Ethiopian but he did supply the tape with the Ethiopian jazz on it. Could be wrong.

they were in ho ho kus, then newton...now?
i bought so much from them that she always gave me 1 free for every 4; + everything over $8.00 was $8.
...then she'd throw in a bunch of stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05pm

Bill, regarding throat singing, you could try whistling to llamas or vicunas as a starting point and building up. You gotta begin small and develop it.
