I puked my guts out at 3am for some unfortunate combination of Thanksgiving bus travel, stress, and foods. But hey, now I don't have to feel guilty about overdoing it with my caloric intake! (silver stomach lining)

Oh, but the coolest part of Thanksgiving this year was talking to my dad's friend Jim who he's known since grade school. (I mentioned this on Bryce's playlist) Turns out that when Jim and my Dad were teenagers, they threw a fundraiser for WFMU at a local highschool. 1970, perhaps? Passaic, maybe? He told me they had a huge party with lots of bands, then brought a bunch of money to East Orange and gave it to them. In return he said the DJs gave them random stuff they had, one of which was a door from the place covered in stickers and stuff. How cool!!

that is amazing Eyepatch. so does your Dad not know you're a superfan? how'd it take so long to get this story out of him? my Dad's been telling me the same dozen or so stories of his youth for the past 25 years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm
coelacanth:

cool,Fox! does someone still have that door?

regarding cooking- i actually love to cook; but i've never cooked for more than 4 people at a time and i don't want to.
Avatar 10:45pm
(Eyepatch) Fox:

Steve: I have no idea why my dad hadn't mentioned this to me before! He's the one that got me listening to WFMU in the late 80's or early 90's when I was a tween. He knows I volunteer at the station. He didn't even mention it to me at Thanksgiving, his friend was the one that told me! I think my dad likes to be mysterious.

Enjoying the show.

Three of the five total FMU Far East Family Band spins were in the last 11 days. Is there something in the air?
  11:21pm
rw:

I saw the Far East Family Band when I was in High School. Must have been around '77. They were having technical difficulties. It was a little embarrassing I think, trying to create that drifty spiritual mood while the equipment made intermittent loud crackling sounds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm
Daniel Blumin:

CDToaster! Glad to hear it! Scott will be on Michael Shelley's show tomorra 11am-1pm! Good q, Uncle Michael! Must be! Damn, rw! Great high school show to see regardless. I almost the Cult so that's something!
  11:37pm
rw:

Ha! The Far East Family thing was part of a day long festival of progressive music at a small theater in LA. Maybe half full of people. The headliners were Gong, but we missed them because we didn't have a car and my parents who came to pick us up didn't want to wait around. So I almost saw Gong in High School! (Did see Gilly Smith earlier in the evening so it wasn't a total loss!)
  11:41pm
rw:

Oh, and the pie was delicious even without the whipped cream.
  11:42pm

from the other room i was trying to determine if this is or is not close-up recordings of high-tension wires.
- i think it's not- but does anyone here know who it is that made recordings of that sort?
...Daniel?
...steve?
  11:48pm

Alvin Lucier?

Oh, and this, but it's not really recordings of wires: http://www.discogs.com/La-Monte-Young-The-Second-Dream-Of-The-High-Tension-Line-Stepdown-Transformer-From-The-Four-Dreams-O/master/182020
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm
coelacanth:

Thanks. he's not it though.
-i bookmarked that video for the future, but this person recorded actual "high-tension wires". while they were delivering electricity to thousands of homes, presumably.
  11:56pm
rw:

coelacanth, that does sound familiar but I don't know. Let me know if you figure it out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm

have Lucier's "i am sitting in a room" on tape- recorded from wfmu a few years ago. i like him. but ...
you know Bryce has played it,whoever it is!

this Pierre Henry is amazing, i just realized!
