Faye, I wonder if you ever heard Dot Allison's first LP?

Kinda your territory, although the best track on it exudes a Christmassy Annie Lennox vibe that might be offputting to anyone who first heard it in dull circumstances...
  7:12pm
P-90:

@Faye: and special thanks for not running off to the party in New Orleans and and leaving us behind like certain others who shall remain nameless.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm

oo I'll check it out foofs- I don't know it!

Cooh John: Yowler (Maryn Solo) is also playing on that tour. Sadly I have to miss it here in favor of Michael Chapman/Ryley Walker.

The solo record is worth grabbing if you haven't heard it. Pretty sure it's on Bandcamp.

I listen to Jonathan Schwartz sometimes, but I'd rather listen to WFMU!
Avatar 7:36pm
bobdoesthings:

there are other radio stations?
  7:37pm
JakeGould:

Jonathan Schwartz is so the opposite of upbeat even if I like his song choices, he makes me want to jump out a window. And his memories are so varied and not all about Frank Sinatra. BIG OVERLAP!

I did see a big SUV limo honk at him when he was waiting to cross the street once and saw him hop straight into the air. Pretty great memory.
  7:37pm
steve:

Schwartz is the WORST. Every time I hear "it's a real New York, sophisticated song" I black out and wake up hours later with stuff knocked over all over my apartment.
  7:38pm
P-90:

True that, @ Faye, Jonathan is gloriously, effortlessly, uniquely weird. Make that capital "W" Weird.
  7:40pm
Linda Lee:

golly .. is he still on the radio? i listened to him on rock radio in the 70s .. before i left commercial radio forever.
  7:42pm

Sinatra! Next! On “Hello Children!”

Been reading the Richard Hell book. Not bad but the criticism of the book just being about how many prep school girls and others he slept with is pretty right. Lots of purple prose on the ladies in that book. Lots.

Haven't read it but Richard Hell's book might be be a little more interesting if he had slept with a lot of prep school girls, and some "nice dudes too."
  9:32pm
JakeGould:

@P-90: Well, he had an affair with Patty (Mucha) Oldenburg, Claes Oldenburg’s wife that was pretty cool to read. I respect Richard Hell.

Oh, THAT Ajax. I thought maybe A. Jacks (& the Cleansers).

hahaha. "YOU NEED THAT GUY"-Marc Maron. I was hoping he'd ask the president that

"So, who are YOUR GUYS?" — Maron to Obama
  9:41pm
JakeGould:

Be careful folks… Marc Maron Google’s himself regularly and will just show up on comment boards to go, “No! You are wrong!” Respect him but c’mon… Chill out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm
melinda:

Marc Maron romanticizes the idea of older siblings as musical guides because he didn't have that. They can turn you on to great stuff but also needlessly steer you away from good stuff because of personal bias. (Marc if you read this know I'm a huge fan).
Avatar 9:43pm

Nice tunes tonight, Faye.
  9:47pm
P-90:

I was the oldest, but my friends all had older bothers and sisters who were invaluable guides.
  Swag For Life Member 9:50pm
JPTappen:

haha. I'm a big maron fan and pay the premium for all the archived wtf episodes. I've just listened to so much wtf that i end up hearing a variation of that same question all the time....He's so fascinated with how people grew up and the comics and musicians who shaped their careers, which is cool, but it always comes out as like,"so, who were your guys?" I just find that phrasing funny and also like it.
  9:51pm
JakeGould:

@P-90: My older siblings were essentially on a different cultural planet than me. For me it was just friends and peers in school. And as far as gender stuff goes, you know who clued me into Led Zeppelin as a kid? Not a guy… A gal… Debbie from Manhattan Beach gave me a C-90 tape of Physical Graffiti and that opened me up to a new world at the time… So give t up for the gals.
  9:52pm
Cooh John:

Nice elevator music as I head to the plane (head bobbing).
  9:52pm

PS: “At the time…” for me was 1982 so that was a non crusty, classic rock thing for her to do.
