Voice sounds like late (80s or 90s) Lata
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39am
Jeff Golick:

We trust your judgment implicitly, Gary.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am
coelacanth:

good morning Jeff and Jeff and others
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am
Jeff & Jeff:

Hi there, @coelacanth!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am
Gary:

My judgment tends to be deeply impaired by lack of sleep, excess of stress, and general ignorance about most things happening on earth, in outer space and at the subatomic level. That said, I would be willing to wager U.S. $1.75 that that was, indeed Lata's voice, pulled from an 80s film soundtrack. (I can't think of any 90s films she sang on other than Khuda Gawah, altho I'm sure there must have been (many?) others)

Good morning Jeffs and non-Jeffs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am

Greetings, @fred!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am
listener james from westwood:

@Gary: I'm never gonna hold a lack of sleep against a person. I'll back that buck-seventy-five.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am
Jeff & Jeff:

You don't hear much about the Cairo free jazz scene of the 1970s. Trying to correct that this morning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am
Gary:

So thrilled you're playing this, Jeffx2 -- I haven't heard of them before and they don't make an appearance in Thomas Burkhalter et al.'s The Arab Avant-Garde ... someone needs to write about 'em!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27am
listener james from westwood:

Can + proofreading = greater efficiency at catching errors. It's just science.
  10:28am
Jeff:

Then you'll want to work/listen tonight during Gary's shoe!

Finally watched two different Fela documentaries last month -- man, what an insane, incredible life the guy had
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am
Jeff & Jeff:

Agreed, Gary. Michael Veal's biography of Fela is essential reading too. Covers quite a bit that isn't in the docs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am
Gary:

I've read much (but not all) of the Carlos Moore book ... will have to keep an eye out for the Veal ... thanks for the tip!

Where music and proofreading intersect: Just marked a deletion in proofs for the hyphen Jay Z no longer uses.

@J&J: A marketing book, one focused on disruption. This was in the context of a service that turns text into short news videos about the topic in said text. (Jay Z being an example of someone with lots of B-roll to draw on.)

And on that note, many thanks for the mighty show! Have a great rest of your stay in NYC, Jeff J!
