A terrific interview with Nass El Ghiwane's Omar Sayyed, provides lots of background on the group and includes many old, B&W photos: qifanabki.files.wordpress.com...

I love you guys, is really the gist of it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm

Do another one, Flash Strap. The only thing more wonderful than a radio/stream that delivers a Tak Shindo special is one that delivers multiple Tak Shindo specials.

In fact, I insist that you do a Tak Shindo special.

Gary i didn't want to say what my primary source of Arnaldo Baptista music is! i have an "Arnaldo Baptista station" and i can check my
thumbs-upped" tracks, but that wont tell me which ones are the weird ones and which are the pretty ones. ..except "lsd",which is fairly sure to be a weird one!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm
coelacanth:

this is all Amazing! i think i've heard the first track before- probably on fmu! -but i've been unfamiliar with all these artists,by name, until now.

...are they all "gnawa"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm
Gary:

It's complicated, Coelecanth. They're shaabi, I guess you'd say, but gnawa influenced. They're *not* traditional -- especially not the lyrics, which tend to be hyper-politicized, to the extent the could get away with it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm
coelacanth:

(please forgive me if that's a stupid question!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39pm
coelacanth:

ah. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40pm

It's not a stupid question at all!
