Morning friends!

Morning Ken. Love that cockpit gif.
  6:28am ҐѠҐfѠ (:

Good morning, Kommissar Ken, Komrade P-90!
  6:35am P-90:

That's the most exotic typography yet.
  7:14am ҐѠҐfѠ (:

Thanks, P-90. It's not only exotic but organically sourced.
  7:21am ҐѠҐfѠ (:

Ken,

Something cognitive dissonances me to no end. Last week you played 'Following Dustbin Cats', and although it sounded like Wevie Stonder/DeCrepon (at least to me) it is credited to Dan Wilson, the singer from Semisonic!? According to the interwebs, the track is indeed from Dan Wilson. Either the internet got broken or am going crazy but that song has to be from the great Wevies.
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 7:24am -Ken:

This Dan Wilson is the guy from Meadowhouse.. not sure if it is the same guy as Semisonic. I dont think Dan is related to Wevie de Crepon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32am groucho:

Hello. yes
  7:36am ҐѠҐfѠ (:

Oh, I see, Ken. Everything makes sense now. No more sleepless nights.

Anyway, this is where the internet got broken (where it says song is from the Semisonic guy):

That's the only reference of the song in the entire web..Well, that link and the link to last week's show.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am Marcel M:

@Andrew: I'm not sure, I only listen to Top 40.
  9:44am JakeGould:

Soft Cell was pretty bad when you compare them to peers like Erasure or even Depeche Mode.

Avatar 11:10am ottovonbqe:

Some of the subject matter of Radiolab is interesting, but the insufferable hosts and the god-awful cutesy editing kill it for me.
  11:10am JakeGould:

The moment I stopped tolerating Ira Glass is one episode of “This Sheltered American’s Life” where he equated sleep to death. Stating that whenever we sleep we are dead. The second i heard that I just couldn’t stand to listen to any of his nonsense. So sleep is death? Yup, no rest for the OCD.
Avatar 11:10am βrian:

@RVP: Amen re radio lab. I've never heard anything so contrived. Even when the content is good, the effect is vapid.
Avatar 11:10am OTB:

@ Rev - I'm with you... thought the Radio Lab editing was interesting...but only the first time I heard it. ENOUGH ALREADY.

FWIW, Garrison Keillor is the only thing I can stand on NPR anymore.

RE NPR:
Yeah I can't stand Radio Lab. They do interesting stories but the production and the two host talking to each makes me want to be violent, and I am a pacifist most of the time.
  11:13am JakeGould:

@dale: “schizophrenic and fmu go hand in hand.” More like NPR paychecks and survival in NYC go hand in hand.
  11:13am ҐѠҐfѠ (:

Matias Aguayo, Camilla Vallejo and 31 Minutos, are the best things ever coming from Chile.
Avatar 11:14am Bronwyn Bishop:

I think the "what does the fox say" people must have listened to this before making their fox video.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am Parq:

I was a big Prairie Home fan for a lotta years, and even went to the Radio City Music Hall show. I stopped listening to NPR in fall 2008 because I couldn't stand the election coverage. I was going to go back in December, but I found I didn't miss it at all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am Marcel M:

@Cobradan: You talk about things that make you violent quite frequently for a pacifist!
Avatar 11:16am map:

I get that some people like the editing of radiolab, it's just not for me and that's enough for me to not listen in the first place.

But the part I really can't stand is that whenever I've listened the hosts seem overly proud to be innumerate and non-technically minded (like wtf is this? fox news radio? I find it weird being that it's a science/philosophy focused show according to wikipedia). Every time they start going down their garden-path narrative i reflexively start screaming "no! no! no!" and have to turn the radio off to keep my blood pressure down.

The problem with all NPR stations nowadays is they basically have become the stereotype of what non-NPR listeners think they are: Snooty, aloof and elitist. I grew up in working class Brooklyn, and 100% nobody regularly listened to NPR except for a few “loons” and it was listenable back in the 1970s and 1980s. The only thing making them “nutty” were different points of view and interesting ideas. Nowadays NPR on-air staff makes me want to wretch. Ira Glass is the worst in many ways. I mean there is really nothing egalitarian about that guy’s POV: He is up there and others are down here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am Sem Chumbo:

Ira needs to handle a few snakes, then he'll be one of the regular folks, JakeGould. You'll see.
