A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

I could use a bit more cleaning up. For now I will keep using the box trick.
Avatar 11:13am

I actually long to be orderly, organized in that way. But it would require tremendous energy and time to accomplish and I think I've come to terms with the fact that I'm a bit sloppy.

RIBOT!! probably my biggest influence guitar-wise now..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am

Put the stuff you want to keep because you 'might need it someday' in a box and close it up. Wait a week. If you can't think of something in the box that you might need just throw the box out.
Avatar 11:16am
Priscilla:

Ah. One week, you say? :-)

You'd be surprised at how rarely you remember what you put in the box.

actually, I've been tossing a bunch of crap out lately. You have to if you live in a tiny DC row house.
Avatar 11:20am

huh. i'm just now using some pieces of beautiful 1/4 sawn walnut i've been storing for ten years. i don't subscribe to the throw it out if you can't think of an immediate use for it theory.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- too draconian for me - but does make the point about having stuff that you are not using.
...I think this might be the lady I saw talk about her book when I was in Santa Barbara; this lady spoke of the irony of Americans coming to learn about Feng Shui placement - when they're choke up w/ all these things. The U.S. is a July 4th ♋Cancer - acquisitive; we even take a home w/ us when we vacation on the road!...She wondered what it was about us - an anxiety from the Depression? Must.have.things. Frankly - I'm w/ dc pat & glenn though - I'm 100% that type. I'd bet Picasso's primary use of the housekeeper wasn't necessarily tidiness - nudge nudge...(If that's sexist, consider it a reflection on Pablo...)

the Canterbury wood-elf:

Reassuring that people are still making dub that sounds this good. I went to a dub convention last year and it was all monotonous techno-ey stuff. Just read that Hollie Cook is the daughter of a Sex Pistol and goddaughter of Boy George!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am
Andrew Waterloo:

@glenn, I mainly use it for clutter and things that don't really have a place.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- like - you glenn prob. have a workshop - a place for it...
  11:22am
Dean:

Don't throw away anything, ever. Nothing. Keep it all. I know from whence I speak. In a fit of pretend nonchalance about my stuff back in the '80s I tossed all of my issues of Flipside, Slash, and assorted punk memorabilia. I gained a box. I lost an archive.
Avatar 11:23am
glenn:

then again, i have space to store stuff, so that's a factor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am

a dub convention!! now that sounds good, on paper at least. my husband is at a librarian convention, i'm sure he'd rather be at the dub version

@Trouble United Nations of Dub. unodweekender.com
Old-school Brixton-style soundclashes as night. SO loud. I was surprised how young the crowd were - it seems dubstep has led a lot of youth back to dub, but they want it faster and more digital sounding. Very little King Tubby, Scientist or anything like that, so it was hard for me to get into. Excellent, peaceful vibes, tho', as you'd expect.

BLuesbreakers is John Mayall but ok...Not really interested in Blind Faith either.
Avatar 11:54am

that first bluesbreakers album is unbelievably influential, though, in everything from licks to solos to his guitar tone. he was the first guy to get that sound. so, for better or worse, pretty much every modern rock guitarist owes something to eric clapton.

the Canterbury wood-elf:

Never had any time for Clapton at all (and I didn't even know aboiut his racist outbursts til recently). He does what he does well enough, but he's been stuck inside a set blues scales for 50+ years. It's a joke that he's regarded a some kind of guitar uber-hero and someone as imaginative on the fretboard as Steve Hillage is the butt of anti-hippie jokes (at least in the UK).
