There was rumor that Richard James lost an ipod years ago full of unreleased tracks. He believes the person just wiped it clean though.

Is the background music "Jolene" by Dolly Parton with the needle stuck on rhe wrong speed?

Marc:

the*
Avatar 4:07pm
Kurt Gottschalk:

marc, it did sound like they were saying 'jolene' right? i noticed that. it's a skip on the 45 'break up to make up' by the stylitics
  4:13pm
Dean:

Dolly and all her make up caused the record to break up.
  4:14pm
rw:

My ex-wife thought those Eno records sounded dated. Part of the reason we're now divorced.

Sounded like incidental music from a Mission Impossible episode for a minute there.

It's amazing that w/ as many Anthony Braxton albums I have, have borrowed, and have downloaded, there's still and unending amount of his material I have never heard.
Avatar 4:23pm
Kurt Gottschalk:

he has made a number of records.

i wonder if even he knows the number.
  4:25pm
rw:

I heard once from a semi reliable source that there's some kind of pattern/system for the Braxton graphic song titles. Does anybody know anything about this?
  4:26pm
Dean:

I have the complete discographies of both Braxton and Sun Ra, including duplicates on vinyl and CD, as well as digital files. All autographed.
  4:27pm
Dean:

(Uncrosses fingers behind back.)
Avatar 4:27pm
northguineahills:

There is a system for Braxton song titles, but outside the various modes and cycles that can be deduced (and different "phases" he does), he won't really let on to what they actually mean,
Avatar 4:28pm
Kurt Gottschalk:

rw, i'm sure there is but i'm not sure how many people know it. he has written a couple of huge books on his composing system. i've never seen them but dean has autographed hardcover, paperback and pdfs of them.

a musician who played with him once told me that braxton said to him that it's just more information to interpret and consider in your playing of the piece, that he doesn't give specific explanations for the titles.
  4:29pm
Dean:

In fact, my Braxton books and manuscript diaries include extensive marginalia from the master himself.
  4:34pm
rw:

The thing that I had heard was that the song titles (and songs themselves) could be overlayed to produce some other larger graphic (song). Sounds a little far fetched to me but then we are talking about Anthony Braxton...
Avatar 4:36pm
Kurt Gottschalk:

rw - that is absolutely true. that's the idea of 'ghost trance music' (and other arenas of his work). i'm sure you can find ghost trance clips on youtube and see musicians motioning to each other to play a different piece within the larger piece.
  4:38pm
Dean:

This time, I swear, I am not making stuff up. I really, really did hear AB perform three nights, six shows, of GTM at Yoshi's, where the Leo series of CDs was recorded in 1997. Nuts, now I know how the boy who cried "Wolf!" felt.
  4:41pm

KG, Cool. Thanks man. Good to know!

Yesterday I photographed a pretty cool sculpture from 1971. It's a latex cast of the inside of a living room. You guys want to be the first to see the photo? I don't think the sculpture has been installed since the early '70s: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2c51onbfq7rffcw/DSC_3489-small.jpg?dl=0

  5:11pm
Dean:

I heard Lauren Newton's work first through Vienna Art Orchestra. Bonkers.

Love the inverted living room!
  5:14pm
rw:

You can't see it in the photo but there's a small slit in the window where a burglar used a knife to try to break in while the latex was curing. It must have been pretty odd to slice through the screen and look in to see an empty room coated in latex.
The artist is Robert Overby. I think the sculpture is for sale if anybody's interested. Way out of our price range even if we pooled all our $ I'm sure.
  5:20pm
Dean:

Hmmm, it would fit perfectly in my living room.

Avatar 5:20pm
Kurt Gottschalk:

that's hilarious. messed up too, of course, but kinda hilarious.

a friend of mine used to work at the museum of modern art. she told me that one day (in the late 90s) someone walked in, took the marcel duchamp bicycle wheel off the wall and walked out with it under his arm. that night he returned it by tossing it over the gate into the garden.
  5:22pm
Dean:

And Marcel laughed.
  5:26pm
rw:

That's a pretty hilarious story too. Must not have fit on the thief's bicycle. I wonder how many of those wheels there are? You think it's just the one?
Avatar 5:26pm

@ rw: cool pic!
