this is where I mention yet again that I really need to read that Alan Lomax biography by John Szwed

John Szwed! Yes, that's the one I was thinking of. I read a brief excerpt (maybe the opening) from it the other night online

I wish I was in Mass. where I have my LP's and digital backups, I can't even remember what Lomax records I have. All I have on my laptop is the Blues in the Mississippi Night comp and the amazing Historic Recording Vol. 7 (India).

Of course back at my house in Mass there's two dang feet of snow, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm
Gary:

If you were stuck at home in two feet of snow, you could totally justify just hanging out listening to records all night. And, yes, we'll be hearing from India at some point tonight.

I think of mob
Avatar 8:41pm

according to this, the Italian Treasury Lp's were recorded by "Alan Lomax and Italian ethnomusicologist Diego Carpitella, from June 1954 to January 1955. The two researchers paired exceptionally in energy, courage, determination, and passion in the undertaking of their project. Within the span of seven months of a tight recording schedule, hopping from one location to the next, they managed to collect about three thousand recordings." is.gd...
