Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from January 16, 2015 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

@Mike East - Having humped a C3 up a snow covered hill, I know the "fun" involved. Being a player, though the contemporary substitutes are certainly more reliable, the consistency of them is often at the expense of the mystery.

@βrian - Probably something involving MC Escher.

Keep wondering, did you get this background music from The Sound Gallery comp? This is my fav track from that

wow - haven't heard this in decades - fine track! Had a cat named after this song!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm

Ye, it's probably from that comp. I'd have to check...because I use it here out of a different folder.

dnt bother checking. so cool that you use it :)

I'm in the middle of cleaning the kitchen before cooking. The workwife was so sick, we lost 8 hours on Tuesday's trip. I sent her to the doctor, so no work for me. Getting ready to do red beans and rice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm

Lane, if you haven't tried a Beeler's smoked pork shank in dishes such as that, do.

Yummmm. I'll remember that for the next time. I'm gonna cut up a pork steak, dust it with jerk seasoning and brown it on the George Foreman today. I showed Mrs. Gray the recipe and she asked that I substitute a cut of pork for the Andouille

I'd been in the car, being a good kid (not looking at my phone) when you were playing the Kenny Ball. I guessed it right. Have you heard his version of "Sukiyaki"? It was pretty cool.
I've still never been able to find the twangy Tele version of that that lives in my brain.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm
Uncle Michael:

I did a whole history of Sukiyaki on the old show and I played it on that show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm
Lane Steelpicker:

What do you think of substituting chicken stock for at least part of the water in the beans? The other week I boiled a few carcasses down, I have a mess of stock in the freezer.
I may try to find a backing track for Sukiyaki and play it on the RTH (Redneck Table Harp). Cool melody

I'm so glad I'm not in an all white NJ high school like I was in 1973 so I can admit I dig this Kool track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm
Uncle Michael:

I wouldn't just because the beans don't need it and chicken stock is precious. Your smoked pork should do the job.

I season with cumin and chili powder...salt and pepper,

Go over UM! Show The Man you won't conform to these oldfangled notions of punctuality and time and space.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm
Lane Steelpicker:

It's not smoked. Just plain pork steak from Herman.
I have another three or four carcasses. First Monday in February, those go in the pot for more stock. When we do a roast chicken or similar, the carcasses go in a ziploc bag for winter stockmaking
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm
Uncle Michael:

man, you gotta have some cured or smoked pork in those beans
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm
Mike East:

I'm in favor of chicken stock in beans...but if its homemade, UM is right, it may be too precious. My wife uses a bouillon cube in her beans sometimes.

If you use good, tasty beans then you don't need much. If you haven't done it before, you owe yourself an order from Rancho Gordo.

Maybe I'll go to Brookwood as the beans simmer and get some smoked hocks. Does Dillon's have 'em?

Does "new wave" mean rock with lots of keyboards from late 70s/early 80s?
