I'm going to see Fela's son, Seun, later this month. Brazil usually hosts has-been artists or almost cover bands, but I must say I'm excited to hear some Afrobeats live
The streaming problem is WFMU-wide, I believe and not just with GtDR. I have sent a note to tech poobah Jeff Moore to alert him. The stream was rebuffering early today before D:O started, so it has nothing to do with the remote hook-up.
Jeff Moore is going to do some investigatin' of the primary stream server, but not until after 3pm so as not to send D:O Radio untethered into space for all eternity.
Sadly... if this weren't a live Drummer show, I'd be able to give y'all an alternate stream URL to try, but the live Drummer DJs (except Doug) feed only one of our two stream servers.
Actually, this show will be a good laboratory: if it's terribly full of stops and starts, that'll be a strong hint that the problem lies with our primary stream server Out in the Cloud. If this live show is freakishly trouble-free, it'll help point a finger at a particular one of WFMU's upstream network connections.
Everybody pay attention, now! I want a full report at 3PM.
sorry if this has been mentioned before - when the stream has started skipping in the past hour (a handful of times) it sound like its switching to a different stream, i suddenly hear very different music skipping in and out.
Thanks, @steve. I believe what happens is the live stream drops for a moment, then the Drummer Radio stream autoplay kicks in, then the D:O music comes back.
From the kicking oneself files: I was really looking forward to seeing Fred Van Hove w Evan Parker on Wed, at Zorn's very small club The Stone. Was told today that this gig was last Wednesday.
Is anyone else monitoring the playlist from a desktop PC? Something maddening is happening to me: no matter what song is playing, the "now playing" always refreshes back to the Roscoe Mitchell song. I've noticed it also does this on most other shows as well. From my iPhone, everything is AOK.
Speaking of browsers, the guy "Bowser" in Sha Na Na once hit on my wife backstage at a concert when she was only 15. Upping the cool factor, she was also hit on by Steve McCall. At a different concert, however.
"One morning, Travis Laplante literally awoke with the crystal clear vision that he needed to start an ensemble with three specific individuals Matthew Nelson, Jeremy Viner, and Patrick Breiner. Laplante was actually unfamiliar with their work as musicians and had only a minimal relationship with them as individuals...."
LaPlante also plays in Little Women, to similar effect.
