@fred - I actually haven't! The only thing I regret about my visit to rock camp was not getting acquainted with a lot of the counselors. They're so important and wonderful, but it was hard to track people down. Especially since I was there the day before the big showcase!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm
fred:

I actually met Toli at a show of a band called Las Kellies. We'd been in touch by email and a phone call, thanks to Toots, but I didn't know she would be there. She guessed who I was because I happened to be wearing a Willie Mae T-shirt that night

... and the A.J. Davila album is great from start to the end.
By the way "Terror/Amor" is also the name of the current group.
Before it was Davila666 now it is "A.J. Davila & Terror / Amor".
A bit confusing.

Guido from Cologne:

We have Jazz-haus-Schule in Cologne where people of all ages can get into band projects. It just is a bit stiff in the results. On showcase events they often work hard through their repertoire. If you see a band having a hard time in time keeeping, but there MUST be a solo for vevery instrument, because it is jazz and everyone has to improvise ... it looks a bit odd and a bit stiff. If they just were more free to play out. OK, Germany, everything in order ...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm
Guido from Cologne:

ERAAS are way cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm
fred:

@Guido: I know... but it doesn't take much to get started: most important is a place. Then getting fellow musicians to lend equipment shouldn't be that hard. By the second year at most, you can probably get music stores to lend instruments (campers are future customers to them)
Counseling takes time, but you're only talking about a handful of campers at first, and it has its own rewards. The Paris camp operates on a shoestring budget, it doesn't take much.
But if they need doubtful financial rewards, campers would probably become new fans who have to have at least one parent bring them to shows.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm

Thank you very much Fred!
I will discuss that over here

@Guido: one final word of advice: talk about it with your friends, help when you can, but don't forget to step back and let them own it. Don't contact the alliance yourself. A friend wanted to help setup a camp in Beirut but even though he was providing a space for rehearsals, his being a straight male was a nonstarter

@Fred
I wouldn't have the time and the brain anyway.

A good friend of mine is a music teacher inat a school with experience in band projects.
He can give practical advice.
And I know a great all-fremale medevial band (with certain jazz/punk/songwriter backgrounds).
Guess they could do good jobs, because they know about how to makevery reduced things very powerful.

Sorry, can't share the love people. Keili's first show was pretty good. But ever since then its been a very fast, very steep slide into mediocrity. And tonight's 'band camp' segment . . . well it didn't really work for me. Man, with the death this year of Jim Reiken and the departure of Terrie T. NYC radio has really turned into a desert. Keili, any chance you could try to get back to the progressive, Terrie-T-esque style format you played on your first show?
