	1:31am mariano: Point taken, Whooda: I've never been married, though I've lived with quite a few exes. Time After Time tends to make my lower lip flutter, though it's not associated with any breakup. What's the other song of the two you mentioned?

	1:34am Whooda: The other song is from the same album, Two Rooms, a Taupin / John tribute. It is Sting's cover of Come Down in Time. It is freakishly close in describing the first days of our relationship.

	2:15am mariano: Y'know, I always thought it a bit cheap of Sir Elton not to write a whole new song for Di. I remember when I heard it in the news: was going home from a Crash Worship show in Oakland, it was about 7am.
	2:17am Whooda: Read today that Sir Elton is tying the knot with his long time honey.
	2:17am nate: I think Elton was busy filming his cameo for Spice World at the time, it was the best he could do under the circumstances.
	2:19am BadGuyZero: When I worked at Borders we had soooooooooo many copies of that "Candle in the Wind" CD single. They were non-returnable since all the proceeds went to charity. I ended up marking a few hundred copies out of inventory each month for several months and destroying them. We had great fun destroying them.

	2:21am Whooda: @mariano I agree with you in the face value of the song was not about Dianne because, of course, it predated her death but I guess the similar circumstances of similarity between MM and the Princess were too much to resist. A form of memorial and protest against the Royals rolled into one convenient million selling package.
	2:23am KP: There's a golden torch statue almost exactly where Di was killed in Paris. EVerybody thinks it's a monument to her but it's not.
	2:23am nate: Can we agree that it was better than rewriting a song from the Lion King soundtrack?
	2:24am P-90: Glad I'm not the only one who thought it a bit creepy when Sir Elton repurposed his classic Marilyn song as a Lady Di funeral dirge

	2:34am P-90: I don't think the Kennedys were anywhere near Taupin and Elton's intentions when they wrote the song, and likewise I really doubt that Sir Elton meant the remake to be a jab at the Crown, just a tribute to his friend

	2:40am Whooda: The death of a starlet in itself would be of no consequence and not worth a memorial song. EJ related to the star due to an early influence from her and her story, the 'sacrificial lamb'. John himself became somewhat of a martyr when he came out of the closet inthe 70's. He lived the life. The Kennedy's clan can no more be separated from MM death than Princess Di's from the Royals. Without the power component in both deaths, they would be completely unremarkable.

The Kennedy's clan can no more be separated from MM death than Princess Di's from the Royals. Without the power component in both deaths, they would be completely unremarkable.
