A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Avatar 9:42am

Woah, just checked the Wikipedia page for "Ride like the Wind":

What you probably didn't know about the song: Christopher Cross was on acid when he wrote the lyrics. "We were living in Houston at the time, and on the way down to Austin to record the songs, it was just a beautiful Texas day," he told us. "I took acid. So I wrote the words on the way down from Houston to Austin on acid."

hmmmmm.
number of songs written while stoned on acid - too many to count.

number of no-hitters thrown while stoned on acid - 1.

...I didn't mind the sax! - I think the quickest way to a crap sound is cheap slick electronic keyboard
...the Production philosophy of Yacht Rock is to take all the Edges off - like audio Koons w/ no irony - if that even makes sense; it's the opposite of Authenticity to the ears & tastes of some of us...

I do not normally like to see roadkill but this week I have seen two foxes lying prone in the road. I smiled quietly to myself. It was cheap but some small recompense for our chickens slaughtered.
Avatar 10:08am
glenn:

hey! foxes rock. and besides, what's the difference between foxes slaughtering them and you slaughtering them?

We keep our chickens in enclosures, so the fox can watch.

Our chooks are for eggs only. You would not want to eat them at their age.
@βrian I thought our fencing was sufficient. WRONG. They came mob handed. Should move to the country. All the foxes have gone urban.

Our plot thickened with chicken blood. Six out of eight were taken This myth about just killing is exactly that. Cubs to feed.
Avatar 10:22am

After slaughter, of course. Funny thing about their free-range practices; although the birds are allowed to go anywhere on the farm, they choose to huddle together in a mass in one corner of the barn.

They're scared, they've heard tales of amputee chickens being fed to foxes and wayward babies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am

Many people are scared of chickens, think it is the way they run t'wards you and the nip from beaks.
Avatar 10:24am

Well, that and in the wild, they wouldn't have prey in an enclosed space that didn't have effective means of escape (domestic chickens). Also, being able to stash a kill for later w/o actually being able to do so effectively, either by being startled or being unable to.

Yeah, you have to quarantine the snails and feed them fresh clean veggies for a week or so, then starve for a few days before the arduous task of boiling and cooking them multiple times to get rid of the slime. In Nigeria, the use some sort of lye on the giant African land snails to remove the slime, if I remember correctly. I want to try some.
