Wooop wooop! So let me tell you how cold it's been here.... on 2nd thought not. The notion that baseball season will be starting in less than a month is the one thing keeping my cockles warm (it's not what you think!!!) Anyway, music will have to fuel us this morning, hope it's warm enough!

I'm listening from Rochdale in the north of England - stories are told about the sun and when it used to shine. I think I have a folk box set about it somewhere sung by the village elders and left in a time capsule so we all may know of ancient times.....

Hey Brian, I'm hoping (for your sake) this is a recent pic. If it is color me jealous...
@P-90 - Is encoldening a word? It's very evocative - the sound of shriveling.

@Sara Nice... it always sounds like everyone is able to savor there libations out there is listening land. right now I'm chugging cold black tea primarily for the caffeine.
  4:25am
sara:

probably cuter with a nice english accent. @bill no microwave for your tea? if that's how you like it, ok. did you say you were sick recently?
Avatar 4:29am
Bill Mac:

@Sar Surely! Also, using the word 'chug' to illustrate my level of pleasure doesn't help either. Microwave is upstairs, and I'm lazy...had the cold everyone and work and here are suffering with, I hope to get through the rest of the winter unscathed... fingers x'ed..
  4:35am
P-90:

@Can't you just ask an intern or production assistant or whatever to take your tea upstairs and heat it for you while you're on the air?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35am
Stanley:

@Sara - tea with cardamon and milk sounds like you should be drinking it with an Indian accent, memsahib.
  4:36am
sara:

oh nice song. i bet a microwave in the studio would get too messed up eventually. yeah, hope it does stay away. feel better. fresh ginger in your food or tea can help repel bugs, at least it tastes good too, good for the throat too i think?
Avatar 4:38am
Bill Mac:

@P-90 You must be referring to the parallel universe WFMU - the one where I get driven to my mansion in my limo by my chauffeur after my show.
Avatar 4:41am
Bill Mac:

@Sara I shudder to think what would happen if we had kitchen appliances here in the studio... I feel good but it sounds as if I could constantly use something for my throat - alway a little bit raspy in there.
  4:43am
P-90:

You mean to say the Freeform Station of the Nation doesn't have interns eager to lend any assistance they can to the air staff? Is that because you're on the graveyard shift and things are quiet there on a Friday night?
  4:43am
sara:

@stanley i'd make some for all the "help" too, it was assam and ceylon tea
Avatar 4:44am
Bill Mac:

@P-90 I think most people are scared to be here after midnight. Others just don't have any sense.
  4:47am
sara:

@bill i can just imagine all the djs ranting about microwave smells or something on air. the best show would have had at least ten minutes about it, right?
  4:48am
P-90:

Hmmm... if there were appliances, you could do cooking segments on the air. i picture Terre T making raspberry waffles, Rex sharing his Cheetos Pie recipe, Gaylord's signature Empanadas, Evan's Funky Caramel Popcorn and Nuts etc.
Avatar 4:48am
Bill Mac:

@Jay You still there? How much longer do you have to deal with the transition?

...two sides to every coin...
  4:53am
P-90:

Terre's raspberry waffles sound good, right?

Sure, screw the legal ID, just play more music, why not

  5:10am
Fran:

Excellent Bill - his soundtrack purchases included Godzilla, some Lalo Schiffrin and one of my favourites the ever wonderful Dr Phibes Rises Again! Yes the new Foetus is tremendous stuff! Sara in my case a monastic breakfast will be something most people would seek forgiveness for cooking or at the least would get up far too early and pray to avoid eating it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10am
Stanley:

Although I don't really listen to Pink Floyd anymore. I have to accept that when I was a young me and my pals were totally into this album. Time and place, 1973 in my friend's bedroom lying on the floor speakers next to our heads. Nice to hear a cover of the whole album bit like the Easy Star All Stars a few years back.
  5:10am
P-90:

Ohhhh... The Lips and guests did their OWN DSOTM album! I had no idea at all. That brings the Dark Side tribute album total to what, 247?
Not including Weird Al Yaonkovic's Gilbert and Sullivan comic operetta version

The Lips always worried me with their prog leanings. There I've said it.
  5:13am

@Brian: They should lean the other way, agreed
  5:14am

Brian - you could be starting the good prog bad prog debate which is potentially endless outside of agreeing the Alan Parsons project are awful?

@Fran - Yes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16am

Never understood when people said about prog groups when I showed some shall we say distain. 'Well they can play their instruments'. So what, it's not the nurdling surely, it's the soul behind it.

@fran not good/bad just why?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18am
Brian in UK:

Looks like I just nailed my colours to the mast. Got any sea chanteys?
  5:18am

I'll agree it is an awful catch all term and a lot of good bands are tarred with that brush. You should never judge a man by the length of his drum solo as the Bible would have said if written in 1974.

Cardamon Tea - isn't that a good name for a prog band???
Avatar 5:23am

@Fran I love Dr Phibes! Nothing else. I've seen too many fat priests to have any faith in a monastic meal of any sort. Oh yeah, and the Lips leaning make me leery too. I'll catch up later - you guys exhaust me.
