Favoriting Bryce: Playlist from January 10, 2014 Favoriting

I never miscue a record. I am punctual, well-prepared, and dislike clutter. Outgoing and helpful, I'm always appropriately dressed. I do not behave erratically and have excellent penmanship. My CD's never skip, and I am in good health. I like all the notes, in any order.

@Bryce: have you read the The Quietus piece reappraising Enya's first album released 25 years ago? I thought it was so convincing that I'm only awaiting a reappraisal of Jean-Michel Jarre's body of work
Avatar 1:11pm
Bryce:

haven't seen it! was that right after clannad??
Avatar 1:14pm
doca:

Yes, right after it. Actually it is her second album, Watermark. Here it is: thequietus.com...
Avatar 1:15pm
doca:

The writer has a very sound point here: "I've actually been planning to write an In Defence Of Enya feature for the Quietus since the very day we started the site. For years, saying you liked Enya was enough to get you laughed out of town. Recently, though, her implicit presence has been everywhere (whether intentional or not). A recent example would be Julia Holter's 'Horns Surrounding Me', a kissing cousin to Watermark's 'Cursum Perfico'. Or how about early Laurel Halo, Julianna Barwick, Grouper; even new Burial track 'Rival Dealer' has an Enya passage, as if his night bus had got lost up a country lane. She's surely ripe for a reappraisal."
It's just like that new comp on private New Age music 1950-1990.

Avatar 1:30pm
Carmichael:

Separating Enya the person from her product has been tricky for me. Same with Sinead O'Connor. I like their output, but have trouble with their personalities. Being from Wexford, I suppose I have a chromosonal bias.
Avatar 1:33pm
doca:

@Carmichael: Haha I get the same feeling with Caetano Veloso. But I find it harder to separate the musicians from their annoying fans. Just in case, I think it took me ten years to being able to really listen The Smiths.

LovecraftDude888:

I felt the same way about her music as who was that band that did that song "SADE-NESS"? late 80s or so? Kind of new agey instrumental stuff? trip hop meets Gregorian? I thought a lot of that pop music was a flash in der pan. and I was mainly right
