6:03am : and now, we begin. Greetings to alla you. Here in Jersey City, it's cold and dark. Hows bayou?6:08am : Hiya, Frank, and good NY eve eve. 40F and rain here now.6:12am : morning Sem. It's kinda dark, and yet chilly...6:14am : Haeya Frank and everyone. Years almost done yay!6:18am : Howdy thar' pardner DJ Frank O'Toole. Hanging loose in these parts (and some other parts are hanging too.)6:21am : Good afternoon, mauri. How's things out there in your part of the globe.
cold war jaguar: welcome aboard.6:21am : Joni anything works for me, but this is especially welcome.6:24am : Sacramento State is my Alma mater, the art school. They were in the news last week or so.
www.nydailynews.com...6:26am : Sable, small world, eh?6:26am : Hello, Frank!! Hi all of you fine folks! Wow, we weren't up in time for the top of your show, Frank, but a big retro MMMMMMMMWWWWAHHH! for the ditty spin! :)6:27am : Yay Burt! Gonna be a very late start for the winter . no snow and the lake melted. Things are fine and very boring.6:28am : [BTW, some of the party favor horn sounds were provided by Philo -- they have a Finnish-ed sound]6:28am : Hiya Frank! Morning, gang! Just tuned in as Joni was ending, and missed kat's ditty, but thanks for playing it and all the good music you provide for waking up!6:29am : @mauri: Yeah, we were looking at the kelikamerat just yesterday and noticing no snow as far north as Oulu.6:29am : Yes, and also a small University. I'm in Upstate NY presently. The monks that sing funny performed there and I remember a famous traditional Japanese folk artist also performed while I attended.6:35am : The Mint 400 was a desert motorcyle / dune buggy race back in the '70's, in Nevada I believe. I'm thinking the famous recording of Hunter Thomson and his lawyer were covering the race while tripping (or maybe that was from the movie 'Loathing in Las Vegas.6:36am : -currently 34°F up heah NewHamshuh
- heavy snow w/ big downy-feather-loke flakes starting 4 P.M. yesterday. Power went out for a few last night...
...My Mac is warning me about the NYDailyNews site ! Think it's safe - ?? : ) ...well - as your lawyer Hunter, I advise you...6:37am : Doesn't feel like new years at all. could be early autumn or a spring day when I look out now. even glibses of sunny blue sky.6:38am : It's a news site Rev Rabbit, it is an article with photo of a mock lynching; two white guys hanging from a tree on campus, by a black artist. It caused a little bit of a stir, unimaginative sensationalism, not art.6:40am : Stay warm, RevRab. No snow down here, feels it like, though.
Mako: I recently watched Terry Gilliam's take on HST. The Mint 400 was nicely represented, a lotta dust.6:41am : ...no new nutrition or 1-3-7 trimethyl xanthine in the bloodstream this A.M. yet to prevent typos...plows outside for snow & set the plow the kitchen...however it's only just dawned on me that 'Buffalo' & 'Springfield' are both towns. This must be the advantage of breaking them down into parts like this...6:44am : My school buddy in Oklahoma around 1968 bought a Suzuki 90cc and took it to the Mint 400 and ran it there. My favorite movie for years was "On Any Sunday" from the same period about motorcyling culture6:45am : "1,3,7-trimethylxanthine (sometimes used as a pesticide to kill frogs) also happens to be one of the world’s most popular drugs.
Users find that it improves attention and concentration, and slightly decreases their heart rate at low doses. It is habit forming however and has been known to cause agitation, anxiety, insomnia, disorientation, nausea, delirium, hallucinations and tinnitus. Some people report involuntary tremors or even convulsions. Overdoses can cause seizures, respiratory failure and cardiopulmonary arrest. Withdrawal from regular use can cause symptoms including headache, nausea, nervousness, reduced alertness and depression.
The metabolic half-life of the drug is usually somewhere between three and seven hours so a typical user will take somewhere between fifteen and thirty-five hours to process 95% of their initial dose. How many milligrams have you taken today?"
...It's caffeine, of course...6:45am : Gotta split, back to the grind -- car today, no motorbiking when there's flurries! Have a fine and safe new year, owl!6:47am : Philo, glad you made it. Take care.6:47am : You as well Philo !6:50am : Enjoy your adventure in the salt mine Philo. Just keep dreaming of the sunny weather, full gas tank and plenty of throttle left on the handlebar.6:52am : ...one thing about them Isolated Tracks I learned (starting for me w/ the 'Pet Sounds Sessions' box) is if you take it apart & it still all sounds good - in fact reveals hidden treasure lost in the Final Mix - you're lookin' @ some good stuff made w/ care ! ; in fact, it points up that the Mix we know is but one possibility...Obvious maybe, but notable (& a real pleasure w/ that Springfield ferinstance)...6:55am : I am confused. What is playing over the airwaves from WFMU right now if this is a webcast only program?6:56am : Groovin' along here in the kitchen w/ this fxo BG. Nice, nice, nice.6:57am : rer : jmintheam.org6:57am : FMU is in the webcast, not on the air. Sorry 'bout this love & confusion.6:57am : [disabling invisibility cloak, hopefully] Frank, et al, my New Year Celebration Song is not a mash-up whatsoever. It's wholly original, vocal & instrument tracks ('cept for the already noted live contributions of Philo on toy horn ;). So please take out the "mash-up in "format"? Thanks!6:58am : Actually, format is "Children's Music."7:00am : Kiitos (from Philo, too)!7:00am : check, kat330. It's been fixed.7:01am : Thanks for the explasion Rabbit and DJ Frank O'Toole. Only now I am thrown into deeper confusion. Does WFMU share the transmitter with another radio broadcaster? Just when I think I got things figured out I find out the more you know the more you know you don't know. Kinda like Van Halen doing disco.7:02am : Well, someone had their paying-attention ears on with that last one. Lovin' it.7:03am : ...stream's jumped (very briefly stopped & rebuffered) a few times here w/ iTunes - no biggie; thot it just as likely 'cause my hardrive's pretty full!...Okay - a few times just now...7:05am : Ms. Peyroux was one of the first CDs Philo bought for me.7:06am : RevRab: bear with us. The dropouts are minimal. JM in the AM is in the airwaves7:06am : I've got a super weak free wifi signal and it's not dropping at all.
@rabbit. Give your computter a cleaning with free software like CC cleaner to get rid of temp files and such If you haven't done that maintenance lately. Might clear up many megs of hdd space for you.7:08am : - yes minimal.
- Work for Mac, surplus ? Given nature of Interwebz - often scared the 'cure' is worse than the problem for all I know !!...7:09am : Hi there you all!
Hi Frank!
Buffer-interruptions also on the browser pop-up (Firefox).
It's possibly the web/connection.7:11am : Mornin' fxo. Quick dip in. Best wishes to everyone. not use quite what for but heck does no harm to say it. Afterall 'tis the best radio station around this jivin' sphere.7:13am : @ rabbit. The cleaner is exactly the same for Mac or PC. Your operating system probably has the utility preloaded in the utilities toolbox. It is a safe thing to do, no risks. If you don't have a file system cleaner already in your system, let me know and I'll direct you to a safe link for the freeware download.7:15am : Guido: how's things out your way. We will deal with the buffering. It's over MY head.
Brian: thanks for the props. Happy Boxing Day (missed that one, too).7:15am : agree: CC-cleaner helps.7:18am : Morning fxo and all. Happy almost New Years7:19am : Cheers! Not sure where to look for my 'utilities toolbox' (embarrassingly) - & see CC-cleaner for Mac in websearch, but perhaps a Link you'd lead me to is especially good in *your* experience - ?? Thx ! It doesn't wipe cookies (say) I might *want* - ??...7:24am : I wish I could help, but, I seem to be in the clouds, anyway...
morning Duke.7:24am : A day without Miles is no day at all, some days. Thanks for this, Frank.7:25am : @Rabbit. I just did a quick search for Mac cleaners and found this one
www.winsite.com...
But I can't vouch for it because I am a PC dickhead. I don't know if CC cleaner comes in Mac flavor or not. Offhand i don't know how to dircect you to your utilities but will do a quick search and see if I can figure it out. Will be back soon with results. You will probably get one or two hundred megabytes freed up from your HDD. The freeware is a small program, less than 20 mb.7:26am : ...mostly my hardrive is full of CDs I ripped & Podcasts - because my external hardrive for all that was set up w/ a PC - & my Mac can't change it !! A friend tells me he has a solution to this...& I got a PC I hope is good enuff too...
- Do you think it's still true my Mac is safe w/out a Firewall or any such - ??...
- Miles & his Bands too...timeless...7:31am : CheersJabberJockey. I *have* heard NewHampshuh's own Jabbers on Redundancy Radio here !...7:31am : @ Miles Davis-
He was in a clip honoring Herbie Hancock
at a the Kennedy Center Dec 8th, ( re-played last night)7:35am : According to the chat boards, your Mac does it's own cleaning automatically (genrally speaking) so I guess the freeware cleaner is a non-starter. If you can delete unwanted files or transfer them to an external drive I suppose that's about all I can suggest.
You should have a firewall and anti-virus software active when on the internet.
Is there a group named 'Jabberjockey'? I'm just making this shit up as I go along.7:38am : - ah - Mac-vantage again !
...The Jabbers are G.G. Allin's early & former band...purely riffing on your riffs...7:38am : 3d: thanks for the Miles headz-up.7:39am : SteveJobs: 'It just works!'
...just not w/ anything else...7:42am : hehe. i think I would be embarrassed if I had to tell my mom I was in a band named the Jabbers. :)
Mac and PC systems architecture was supposed to be seamlessly integrated years ago. Maybe it never happened after all.7:45am : Mac vs PC...aargh. I have spent countless hours over the holidays trying to get a movie with subtitles to play on my son's macbook. I can can get the subtitles working flawlessly on Linux and Windows. Mac - no go7:47am : Sweet sounds DJ Frank O'Toole, my day is getting better by the minute.
@duke That's sad news because Mac was supposed to be the superior graphics platform. Go figure.7:50am : - the Steve Jobs bio. is a must-read...7:53am : @Duke One of these days when I get my nerve up I'm going to make the jump into Linux.....one of these days. Maybe that should be my news years resolution. Sure sounds much better than "am going to exercise more".7:53am : @fxo: Was sorry you didn't make it to be with Bob and Dennis on Saturday morning. For once we were able to catch that program (tribute to Dennis Wilson).7:54am : ...Jobs changed our World majorly about five times ! - but this attitude kept him from accepting 'outside ideas' about even his own liver, which was not good...
- Thx for reminder on that Archive kat330 !7:55am : @kat330: Brainen & Diken did a great show, in tribute to the REAL Beach Boy.7:57am : Will have to commit myself to reading Jobs' bio. Sounds like a good investment of time.7:59am : Dat's some ax-playin'.8:00am : @one good tooth Mac Vs PC vs Linux www.youtube.com...8:00am : Vernon Reid ?8:01am : featuring Vernon Reid & Jack Bruce.8:01am : Yep, as you can read.8:01am : @duke. Hah!8:03am : as well as John Medeski and Cindy Blackman. Just sayin'.8:03am : - that kicked.8:13am : ...sometimes you get great musicians together - but the chemistry don't jibe or whatnot...not a problem for these guys that day ; ) ...8:23am : Time for my Monday workout, so will match whatever energy you send out over the waves, fxo. Thanks again for the ditty spin. (And absent any "hello," a "goodbye" will suffice. ;)
Happy 2014!8:25am : ...averaging two widgets: by Friday down to a *High* of 4°F (28° below Freezing) - & a Low of -17°F; sounds like January awlright
- see ya kat330 !
- & yeah - so long 2013 - Hullo 2014 !!8:29am : I'm off to terrorize the sandman *note to NSA, "sandman" is not a target*. Thanks for the great songs and keep those ding dongs warm.8:34am : hehe this song is silly.8:37am : Gee, step out for a minute and miss White Rabbit, which is the nice link back to the Mint 400 comments, HST and the kind of bath experience I once envied.8:42am : Was that the Cream song "We're going wrong"?? Yikes. The seven degrees of Jack Bruce.8:43am : ?: go figure, huh?8:44am : - one writer described that song as 'almost a Fado'.8:51am : Hah, I was just thinking how much I hated this movie.8:53am : ...okay - not *all* positive reviews...8:57am : I'm looking forward to it, so call me a masochist.
Thanks for the feedback, the comments are what I enjoy the most. Have a good week, heppy New year, and all that. I'll be back, next Monday, next year, same time zones, et al. Y'all special to me...8:59am : Thx fxo ! - & All.8:59am : that was good. thanks9:02am : oh yeah, this webcast will be archived and presented, in it's entirety, in a few hours.11:16am : I got my swag yesterday. It may have gotten held up in the mail, but made for delightful timing. I'm saving your dj premium for tonight's party tunes. And enjoying webcast now as I work. Lovely lovely. Thanks fxo. You're a welcome addition to the celebrations.
