Damn, Finewine - that last segment went from spooky to soul-wrenching! Dobie Hicks any relation to old neighbors?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm

Baby Ballinger? Yeah, man! On Artistic.

sinner:

Nice one. He was a funky dude.

Mr. Fine Wine:

Tell me more, reverend!
  8:45pm
sinner:

Ballinger was Church of God In Christ (COGIC) He knew other COGIC gospel folk: Rosetta Tharpe, Arizona Dranes, Utah Smith. He made a bunch of other records for Peacock that are all good with that funky, stop-start gospel piano style...but that Artistic 45 was his first and really hard to find.

Once again, another show that should be longer than an hour. Good grief, Thursday nights would be better if SC was on for 2 hours.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49pm
Mr. Fine Wine:

Found it in Detroit, where there are plenty of COGIC storefront churches. Weirdly, COGIC just came up in another conversation this week after, well, never coming up in any other conversation I've ever had.

sinner:

...maybe the Lord is trying to tell you something....
