Ballinger was Church of God In Christ (COGIC) He knew other COGIC gospel folk: Rosetta Tharpe, Arizona Dranes, Utah Smith. He made a bunch of other records for Peacock that are all good with that funky, stop-start gospel piano style...but that Artistic 45 was his first and really hard to find.
Found it in Detroit, where there are plenty of COGIC storefront churches. Weirdly, COGIC just came up in another conversation this week after, well, never coming up in any other conversation I've ever had.
