	12:30am P-90: @RR: Yes, there's usually an "original cast" recording of the first stage production. In a very innovative move, A. LLoyd Webber put together a studio album of the show before it was ever staged. The album was a hit and overcame the resistance at the time to the "controversial" subject (and title!), which made it possible to do the Broadway production.

Wells w/ that is the original Alien Invasion story all others devolve from - replete w/ BritEmpire metaphors that are still quite serviceable...Speilberg got it wrong - keep it Victorian & let the Metaphors speak for themselves! George Pal ok in 50's...

	12:51am Pete from Boston (and NJ): I first heard Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of War of the Worlds on the Evan "Funk" Davies show about two years ago and still have a great appreciation for it. So over-the-top with the prog, theatrics, guitar wanking, and even a little discoishness in some of the beats.
	12:51am P-90: George Pal's version was brilliant, one of the top 5 Hollywood Science fiction films of the 50's. But with that exception (and Orson's) I agree that the Victorian setting is key. There's supposed to be a film version of Jeff Wayne's most recent touring production of WOTW, with added live in-theater special effects, opening in April.
