BSI:

Sad to report the death of the BSI home stereo receiver thingie. It lasted about 27 years, which means I haven't had to buy one since before the "death" of vinyl.

Infuriating that most off-the-shelf receivers can't handle turntable/analog signals. I'm in a panic. Sitting in the corner babbling. Need thorazine or sumthin'... Haven't been able to play LPs since Thursday. Maybe the Mayans were right......?
  4:35pm
BSI:

.......apocalypse?
  4:35pm
pierre:

That's a very good start, indeed.

…I'm sorry, for a moment, i got lost into Plosive…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm
Scott:

oohhhhh BSI... I feel ya, sailing the same sad ship. w/o a receiver since september, it's killing me. gotta spend $$, i don't have $$!
  4:37pm
Looms:

@BSI: sorry for your loss
  4:37pm
Ike:

@BSI, maybe check Freecycle in yr area? People sometimes give away old receivers (although often unfortunately they are not quite THAT old).
  4:38pm
northguineahills:

I bought my last receiver in 2001, thankfully it handles analogue and turntable signals. However, I hav everything routed through my mixer.

Good luck BSI, If I were in your shoes, my brain would have exploded w/o having a proper sound setup for more then a week.
  4:40pm
BSI:

Adding insult to injury, I did a huge trade score at a local record shop, came home with a bag full o' great vinyl loot, only to discover.... the body...
  4:41pm
BSI:

Clearly, a proper Viking funeral must be done.
  4:45pm
Looms:

Stay put, BSI! I'm gathering wood.
  4:46pm
buffy:

Bigfoot vs. Fat Albert?
  4:46pm
Carmichael:

BSI, get an inexpensive DJ mixer to go in between turntable and receiver. I found one for about 25 bucks, a shitty little 2 channel w/sliders. Solved my problem.
  4:48pm
hubba:

okay, what the ... is DAW?
  4:49pm
still b/p:

My Pioneer SX434 has been working since 1975. Hardly a high-end unit, probably $150 when new, but a trouper. Face illumination is a little gap-toothed and volume knob has that dirty static thing going on. But still, that is value and endurance, my Mayan friends.
  4:52pm
Carmichael:

Hubba, where have you been lo these many months?
  4:54pm
Carmichael:

bp, I have an SX-880 I bought new in '79. Still works beautifully. It rocks the garage via my JBLs I got at the same time.
  4:55pm
hubba:

Hey Carm - I lurk... I was having trouble getting the flash to do me right... after some migration or some such, it comes in great. only a matter of time until i'm busted... but it will sound sweet till the end!

Did you score some of that hoppy clause while it was around?
  4:56pm
BSI:

still b/p: I dig. Mine was a typical off-the-rack 200W sony. Nothing special, but worked like a champ since the mid-80s. Then, without a cough, dead...

Just had to mention it here because of the sheer COMEDY of looking for such a simple device after vinyl went through such .. changes ..
  4:59pm
efd:

@BSI I recently bought a new basic Harman Kardon receiver that has a phono input. I think it's a somewhat older model so I found it on sale; it's the HK 390 if you want to check it out... can't claim it'll be as solid as your old one, but it's been working well for me so far.
  4:59pm
Carmichael:

@hubba: Yes I had the Hoppy Claus, mui bueno it was. Good to know you're still around. I was about to create a bar song in your memory at the Rube.
  5:03pm
hubba:

carm - I still look around, both places, to see who you might be... I think I've got you down to about 6 different dudes, although, unless i'm 3 pints in, I'll keep the the sleuthing to myself.
  5:05pm
hubba:

Just saw someone is putting out an early robert scott 7": pre-bats, pre-clean, pre-robert scott.
  5:07pm
Carmichael:

6 different dudes, that's me. And the title of my next album.
  5:08pm
BSI:

This Cat Stevens: an Oddly appropriate tune for 5pm -- I could stay and dig more tunes, or I could go & hug the dog. And allow him a well-earned wee. .. choices..
  5:10pm
Carmichael:

OK, Well-earned Wee is the new album title.
  5:11pm
Peanut Gallery:

BSI: Going home, mentioning "wee" -- please do NOT remind me of that Geico pig! Death To Geico Pig!

nothin but net! swish! he's on fire!
  5:11pm

  5:16pm

a perfect day for bananafish.....
  5:23pm

OK. the well-earned wee wins this time. Cheers to Scott & whichever DAW deserves it most. Brilliant tunes...
