Listener comments!

  3:04am
listener mark:

good evening or good morning, Julie
  3:04am
other david:

Good night/morning Julie and listeners :)

Tail end of Katia zipped by, beautiful bright & cool morning here

*puts on some coffee*
  3:06am
fred:

Good morning Julie, Mark and David!
I'm only dropping by for six minutes or so... We'll see how long these last today
  3:07am
T-Zero:

@other david: Were the winds as bad as the media kept saying they would be?
  3:10am
other david:

T-Zero, not here - but I'm near the east coast of Ireland, so was pretty sheltered - west coast looked rough, a few thousand people lost power, trees down, but nothing unusual
  3:10am
fred von helsing:

Good morning, all. This is your emergency reserve fred, ready to fill in.
  3:11am
Julie:

Hey there folks! It's like 100 degrees in here..I'm a little slomo
  3:11am
T-Zero:

@other david: Hope the power has returned, or returns quickly. I was wondering because media were saying Northern Scotland would be hit with 80mph winds.
  3:12am
T-Zero:

Damn! Julie. Why so hot?
  3:13am
Julie:

I guess Dum Dum had a fire burning
  3:14am
Julie:

Was Bodah breaking records? There's like vinyl pieces all over the floor
  3:14am
T-Zero:

Thought maybe the gates of hell opened up for playing that Musica Nuda cover.

Yeah. He busted up a Hall and Oats album.
  3:14am
maja:

yoho the more wind the more power i have. so i can join you all this
good morning!
  3:15am
other david:

Damn, I never did send in that Damien Rice cd for Dan to smash... next time!
  3:16am
Julie:

ah no love for the Musica Nuda?
  3:17am
T-Zero:

Not from me, and I usually don't mind covers.
  3:17am
other david:

@Julie - I enjoyed that :)
  3:17am
Julie:

I had this urge to play that song, maybe I should have gone with the original
  3:19am
T-Zero:

Perhaps, but it wouldn't really have fit with what you've played so far.
  3:21am
T-Zero:

morning, maja. Are you the person who was digitizing artwork?
  3:21am
Julie:

that's never stopped me before!
  3:22am
T-Zero:

heh, true, true, Julie
  3:26am
listener mark:

"I Will Survive" --- Men In Black II. --Frank (the dog) sings that song in the car. lol
  3:26am
maja:

@t-zero, ? well sometimes i digitalize one of my paintings to put it on my website, but i don't think it's that what you mean. I live on a ship, windmill, suncollectord etc. no cables etc. Today wind and sun!
  3:27am
fred:

Looks like I have an excuse to linger: trains are stopped for "security reasons" and my alternate subway route is also blocked because of "technical difficulties".
  3:27am
Julie:

Oh dear, Fred..I have had days like that lately
  3:29am
T-Zero:

Sorry, maja. I've been trying to remember what listner was working for a museum.

Living on a ship (houseboat)?
  3:29am
fred von helsing:

Standing by
  3:29am
fred:

I can imagine the weather then the 9/11 ceremonies made commuting complicated.
  3:30am
fred von helsing:

The 911 ceremonies are starting to remind me of the air raid sirens in The Time Machine
  3:32am
other david:

I liked that ACWL track a lot
  3:33am
maja:

no t-zero it's a sailing fishcutter 101 years old

*she said proudly*
  3:34am
T-Zero:

Wow, maja. Must be an interesting way to live.
  3:39am
T-Zero:

@fred, People where I'm at were, shall we say, less than thrilled when some idiot thought it would be a good idea to sound the tornado/emergency warning sirens here for 911.
  3:40am
Julie:

@T-Z I heard someone else say the same thing the other day..crazy!
  3:41am
T-Zero:

It was really stupid, Julie. Scared all the old people half to death.
  3:43am
Julie:

not just the old people I would think!
  3:45am
T-Zero:

True!
  3:47am
ausmanx:

not the only idiocy in the 911 commemorations, i reckon... anyway, good evening miss julie and all; to more important matters, the primacy of Curve over Loop... which is preferable?
  3:47am
fred von helsing:

@TZ My point is more like: Ritualistic forms to reinstill dread and obedience and to renew that semiconscious march to embrace authority and its abuses. There, I got that off my chest...
  3:49am
fred:

Makes me wonder what could have gone through their minds to think sounding that alarm was a good idea. No luck so far
  3:51am
T-Zero:

@fred: I think it left everyone dumbfounded.
  3:52am
fred:

@fred: I think I know what you mean. We have a presidential election next year over here, and they started deploying military patrols in the streets and subway stations.
  3:54am
fred von helsing:

Republic, meet Banana.
  3:54am
T-Zero:

@fred von helsing: Yes, that's how I feel about the media and politicians treatment of the memorials, but the commemorations themselves don't bother me so much.
  3:57am
ausmanx:

ah, all those prognoses of violence in the streets of the good ol' US of A may be coming true, then?
  4:03am
Andrew:

does feel weird though, 10 years have passed since then? makes me feel old. I remember seeing it on TV & it was about 11.30 at night here? it was late night & I stayed up all night watching the live news. (i'm in Australia)
I'd like to live on a boat though.
  4:05am
ausmanx:

yep, i saw it in australia too, and it was a tuesday night, and here i am still in the same place in the same job on a tuesday night! wasn't it supposed to change the world???
  4:08am
fred von helsing:

@TZ Ah but that's the point: Repetition and repetition so that it all feels normal, and so does all the emotional and political and national security state baggage attached to it. Sort of like a Yankee version of the British monarchy, holding up the whole system, but if you kick away the keystone then all the rest falls down around it
  4:08am
T-Zero:

@Julie. I'm not in the best of moods either. Was trying to sleep and couldn't. I always get cranky when tired or hungry. But the earlier part of the day wasn't bad. Sorry yours was.
  4:08am
Andrew:

I know when I saw it (it started here just after the first plane hit, I was thinking oh 1 plane could be an accident, then the 2nd plane hit & I thought somethings up & then I thought they'd probably hit the Pentagon next, and they did, then I thought WW3 was going to start...well it's only been 10 years of limited war...so far.
I also still live in the same place...I did get a GF in between? That was a change.
  4:09am
ausmanx:

any ideas how we kick away the keystone then, Fred?
  4:09am
alberto:

love me some carole king!! thanks!
  4:10am
Julie:

I'm feeling better now that I'm here but boy I was growly before
  4:10am
abby in france:

hi!! andrew, does 'in between' mean you no longer have a girlfriend? i LOVE carole king....
  4:10am
Julie:

and it's not from Tapestry!
  4:10am
T-Zero:

Hearing Carol King reminds me of how I don't hear Phoebe Snow much any more either.
  4:11am
Julie:

Didn't Phoebe die in the last year or so?
  4:11am
Andrew:

Oh actually, yeh, the only thing that's differnet is the super security that's everywhere now. You take a photo of a plane & you're a terrorist, leave your bag on the ground & you get guys moving towards you.
And not being able to take nail clippers on a plane? O_O
This is a nice show too, nice music. ^_^

(this is weird, the math question adds up to 666 O_o)
  4:12am
T-Zero:

@Julie, funny how music can be catharctic that way eh? :)
Yeah. Just a few months ago I think, Julie. Early summer or late spring.
  4:12am
Andrew:

yes it does, but i still talk to her sometimes.
  4:13am
John L:

Heard Carole King from the next room; for a second I thought it was Todd Rundgren.
  4:13am
Julie:

Thank you, Andrew. What's a good Pheobe Song?
  4:14am
Julie:

Todd??
  4:14am
fred:

@Julie: The very word "Tapestry" reminds me of a certain Kenny G show (while we're talking about traumatic events).
OK, I'll have to find some alternate-alternate route to get to work now. Next Fred up!
  4:15am
fred von helsing:

@ausmanx 10 years of water under the bridge, and the new skyscrapers will open, it's past time for closure
  4:17am
ausmanx:

sadly i don't think there's a lot of closure happening for iraqis and afghans...
  4:19am
T-Zero:

Hmmm. I've always liked her first album with Harpo's Blues and Mercy Mercy Mercy or her Tossin and Turnin, Julie
  4:19am
fred von helsing:

that's the truth. one more reason to bag it all.
  4:21am
T-Zero:

I don't think I really have a favorite of hers.
  4:23am
T-Zero:

BTW: I just checked. Phoebe died the end of April.
  4:25am
fred von helsing:

The music is really working :) and Emilie rules
  4:26am
Andrew:

I wonder if they'll have a 10th year thing for the Boxing Day tsunami from 5 or 6 years ago. Way more people died in that, yet you don't even really hear anything about it anymore.
I ws watching some episodes of the Ric burns documentary on NYC, it was interesting. It was in the 30s & 40s.
really nice music ^_^
  4:37am
fred von helsing:

There's a vid of nina persson singing whole lotta love at an award ceremony, plant's in the audience, it's tremendous
  4:39am
Julie:

Yes I've seen that!
  4:44am
ausmanx:

assuming this track is in honour of your devoted Australian listeners. julie?
  4:44am
Julie:

You're on to me
  4:50am
other david:

Ahh I adore this Lost Desert track
  4:59am
T-Zero:

Argh. I hate it when I'm trying to think of a name and it escapes me. Ever since Carole King was played and I mentioned Phoebe Snow I was trying to think of Janis Ian's name and it just now came to me.
  5:08am
pierre:

Bonjour Julie !
public transport made me arrive late !
but here now checking in, enjoying myself
  5:09am
Andrew:

Moliere? i want to see that movie. I love listening to your voice, it's soothing ^_^
  5:10am
Andrew:

Hi Pierre, your ID was played earlier, it was good ^_^
  5:13am
Matt from Springfield:

Good morning Julie!
Bonjour Pierre! I didn't hear your ID, but I'll go back and look for it!
  5:15am
pierre:

@ andrew : =^_^=
(it was a work in progress, my train made me missed it ! darn, merci pour les archives)

@Julie: Bonjour, which Homonym were you speaking of ? (sorry my co-workers are making some noise…)
  5:16am
Andrew:

I haven't heard this version by the Moody blues before, it is good ^_^
  5:16am
Matt from Springfield:

Wow, MBs Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood. Bonus track? I don't think this was ever released.
  5:20am
Matt from Springfield:

I looked up "miroque" on the Latin dictionary--it means "and the strange/amazing/wonderful..."
  5:21am
Matt from Springfield:

KINO!!!!!! VIELEN DANK JULIE!!
Auf Englisch! I've never heard this version!
  5:22am
Julie:

I think this was on the 99 red balloons record
  5:23am
Andrew:

Nena?! wow, I have only heard one song by her. This show is awesome! ^_^
  5:23am
Matt from Springfield:

"MITTENACHT - SITZ ICH IM KINO"

Or in this case, "Mittenacht - Hor' ich an der Julie!"
  5:24am
pierre:

yeah it is Andrew !
  5:25am
Matt from Springfield:

@Andrew: A LOT more where that came from, Gabrielle "Nena" Kerner has a ton of great German and English songs from the 80s. I've loved her ever since I studied German.
  5:27am
Julie:

She's never stopped recording
  5:27am
Andrew:

I should go find some more Nena. I've heard these guys before too, not sure where.
  5:31am
Matt from Springfield:

On a similar note, I've never heard anything else by Janis Ian besides "At Seventeen" so this is delightful, I love the harpsichord and other arrangements. I want to check more Janis out now!
  5:32am
other david:

Gotta fly out folks, and will miss the last half hour :(

Really excellent show Julie - hope you're feeling better

Nice chatting to you all, later :)
  5:33am
Matt from Springfield:

Catch you later, OD!

Harpsicorpse! Woo hoo!
  5:33am
pierre:

@ Matt : i was about to say the same thing. It is like, since Julie payed, "amoureuse" by Olivia Newton John, i'm still listening to it, even though i'm not a ONJ fan of anything (barely know her) 's just i love the song.
  5:34am
T-Zero:

Take care, other david.
  5:34am
Andrew:

O_O
I haven't heard this song before!
I love T-Rex
  5:35am
pierre:

  5:37am

  5:39am
Robert:

  5:39am
abby in france:

going to see brian wilson tuesday, too bad it's not for smile....
  5:41am
T-Zero:

re: Janis Ian. on the Between the Lines album (where 17 is from) I've always liked Tea and Sympathy and Lover's Lullaby.
  5:41am
Matt from Springfield:

You're the kind of girl that fits into our world, Julie! :)

Syd at his best!
  5:42am
pierre:

@Abby in France : Brian Wilson in France?
  5:42am
abby in france:

yes pierre, are you going?
  5:43am
Matt from Springfield:

@abby: That's great! I saw Brian Wilson about 5 years ago--Al Jardine joined him for the first half, singing classic Beach Boys. The second half was a faithful live performance of "Pet Sounds". Brian doesn't get out much so enjoy him whenever you can!
  5:44am
abby in france:

i think it's just going to be gershwin, sad face, but who knows? i love the movie version of smile.
  5:44am
pierre:

I love the Easybeats !
  5:45am
Andrew:

friday on my mind! i was just telling my friend how i love this song. i played her she's so fine.
  5:45am
Matt from Springfield:

Still out there, ausmanx? Here's another one to you!
I thought the Easybeats were British until I found out they're Aussie!
  5:45am
Julie:

skippy vinyl!
  5:46am
Matt from Springfield:

Thanks T-Zero, for the Janis recs.
@Julie: The best kind! Choosy Djs choose Skippy vinyl! (Now I feel like Clay...)
  5:46am
Andrew:

nope, Aussie ^_^
(one of them is the father of Angus Young from AC/DC
  5:48am
pierre:

unfortunately no Abby, althought i'd love to. But it's a bit expensive for me right now. Anyway, between Lucas, fred, Looms, you (abby), and i, we could start thinking about a french wfmu meet up some times ^^
  5:48am
Julie:

it's kinda busy in here..so I'll say thanks for listening now!
  5:49am
Matt from Springfield:

The older brother, actually, but thanks for pointing that out! No clue there was a link between the Easybeats and AC/DC!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Young_%28rock_musician%29
  5:52am
Matt from Springfield:

NEW German jangly rock??! Must...check out The Cherry Pops!!
  5:53am
Andrew:

ah, I guess I thought they were father con, cos they easybeats were in the 60s & AC/DC mid/late 70s.

this 'Immer Mehr' song sounds like a cover of a song I've heard in english?

I saw looms on one of the other programs.

On a sort of random bit of trivia, Olivia Netwon John's brother is a doctor in my town. (or was)
  5:54am
pierre:

The CRAMPS : love.
  5:58am
Matt from Springfield:

Au revoir, Pierre!
Oui, merci pour les archives! (Et merci pour café :) )
