Every show starts with the ’70s! We’ll rediscover forgotten rockers, revisit unfairly maligned disco beats and replay power-pop favorites. Next: plenty of new releases, occasional live bands and more. Don’t let the nickname confuse you.

Favoriting May 11, 2010: "I hope you have good limiters:" VALLEY LODGE live set!
Power popsters extraordinaire Valley Lodge have the distinction of being the first EFD booking to come about as a direct result of Twitter! Sadly, details of the exchange are lost -- at least until the Library Of Congress gets that archive up and running. The band includes current and former members of Cobra Verde, Satanicide, Walt Mink, Sensefield, 2 Skinnee J's, Uptown Sinclair, and Tragedy (the world's greatest all-metal tribute to the Bee Gees). Their hooktastic songs are guaranteed to make fans of The Raspberries, New Pornographers and Cheap Trick stop what they're doing and turn up the volume. Their most recent album is Semester At Sea (Explosive).

Listener comments!

  11:09pm
efd:

so far this comment board is the equivalent of an audience at a New York City rock show.
  11:11pm
john:

Whoa. Do they still have those?
  11:11pm
DJ Terre T:

Hahahaha! Better it should be like a NY Rock than like BK Vegan's commenters!
  11:12pm
efd:

TT, that's an excellent point. Thanks for your tweets and Facebook comments re Valley Lodge!

Hi, John!
  11:13pm
Aharon:

Evan, if this were a New York rock show we'd be talking loudly to people not present about how much we like the music.
  11:14pm
AZ:

I was eating a burrito while listening. Isn't that what most of the people at NYC rock shows are doing, too?
  11:14pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

EFD is that some kind of insult?
  11:15pm
Mark from C-Bus:

Enjoyed the Tubes song the started show. That "took me back" indeed!
  11:16pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

A Lennon and McCarntey song--a rarity on the Funk program
  11:16pm
john:

Hey Evan!

Actually, if this were a New York rock show we'd be sneering about how much better the band was two years ago when we saw them at an all-ages open mike show in a basement in Greenpoint.
  11:16pm
Brian:

The Tubes were my first 'big' concert. My parents had no idea...
  11:18pm
efd:

ok, I hereby rescind my misguided attempt to characterize the early quietude of the comments. Hi everyone!

Valley Lodge coming up in about 10 minutes!
  11:19pm
Michael K.:

and taylor hanson was my first big crush...
  11:19pm
nicole:

I am so excited for this Valley Lodge
  11:19pm
efd:

Something for everyone on the show tonight!
  11:22pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

EFD--if you played Skafish or Klaus Nomi or Jayne County there would really be something for everyone
  11:26pm
DJ Terre T:

TEENAGE LUST!!!!!!!!!!! Thx 4 playing that ---u KNOW u gotz 2 give all the informational notes on that 4 the peeps!!
  11:28pm
AZ:

That Teenage Lust song was unbelievably great.
  11:29pm
DJ Terre T:

  11:32pm
DJ Terre T:

@ Michael K: ru CYNICS Michael K!? SMOOCH!
  11:33pm
Pete:

The Tommy Bolin "Teaser" record originally came out on Epic
  11:33pm
john:

Hey, just for the record, I have an ex-Cynic sitting next to me here. Just saying...
  11:37pm
Aharon:

It's like someone doped a strand of DNA with the EFD archives and grew this band in a test tube.
  11:43pm
Laurie:

Does Phil have a twitter? I would follow him.
  11:44pm
efd:

Phil is @dreamyphil, but he has yet to actually tweet.
  11:44pm
DJ Terre T:

Good idea Laurie-does any in Valley Lodge have TWitter feed? Can u tell us what the handle(s) are pls?
  11:45pm
Camel:

Just sayin. If I'm on past midnight, the rider clearly specifies that I get a doubled appearance fee, and the union guys who do my setup get time and a half, plus dinner money in cash.
  11:45pm
Laurie:

@mrdavehill
  11:46pm
Laurie:

Does anyone else remember when Dave Hill and Phil Costello took Miami by storm? that was amazing.
  11:47pm
efd:

there's also @valleylodge, the band account
  11:47pm
AZ:

EFD, this performance is an unbelievable follow-up to the White Hills set last week. You're on a hot streak!
  11:48pm
efd:

thanks AZ! Just wait til next week, and the week after that!
  11:48pm
AZ:

(which is not intended to suggest that you've ever been on a cold streak.)
  11:55pm
mark:

Can the Valley Lodge live material be downloadd?
  11:56pm
mark:

downloaded
  11:56pm
Joe:

It will, hopefully, be posted on the Free Music Archive? At Freemusicarchive.org?
  11:57pm
efd:

This set will be available for free download on the Free Music Archive set (http://freemusicarchive.org) in a few days.
  11:59pm
mark:

  11:59pm
Mark from C-Bus:

Any upcoming tours for Valley Lodge?
  12:00am
efd:

note to Camel @ 11:45 - you'd better watch your step, I'm just waiting for a certain someone to come through and then I'm kicking you and your hump to the curb.
  12:00am
Michael K.:

  12:02am
Camel:

I suppose I should just go hump myself.
  12:04am
Aharon:

Wowzers. Good music.
  12:05am
efd:

get ready for Phil to blow you all away with his power vocal cords.
  12:05am
Joe:

I am clapping during the hand clap section.

Feel free to join in.
  12:07am
Captain:

Whoa -- I think he just copped the guitar solo from Photograph by Def Leppard....
  12:14am
Danne D:

Hey Funk Fans. Loving the show so far EFD!

*ducks before Aharon can fling any bananas at him*
  12:15am
DJ Terre T:

@ efd -VALLEY LODGE did it! I'm embarrassed i cant remember if Dave Hill was in Cobra Verde when they played my show! Dave Hill is so funny and so musically talented! I usually hate iTunes coz i dont like mp3 -much rather have LP or CD---but i'm goin 2 iTunes right now!
@ Michael K--- Har! yes "Skippy" is dreamy!!! But so are you!
  12:17am
Aharon:

Danne, you should know by now that it's not bananas I and my kind fling.
  12:18am
Danne D:

*ducks again, this time wearing a plastic tarp ala a Gallagher show*
  12:19am
efd:

Thanks Terre, glad you enjoyed it!
Hey Danne!

Mark from C-Bus (what is that, anyway?) - I don't think there are any VL dates scheduled, but check their site for updates (see link in the playlist to the left)
  12:21am
Danne D:

another typical Tim Hudson performance: 1 Earned run, 6 hits, 1 strikeout and um, 6 walks. At least Jenks didn't blow up tonight (blow-ups by one of my pitchers were the headline for 3 straight days of yahoo fantasy bball articles which must be some kind of record).

Props to the wonderful Terre T (you'll be sad to know that I had to make a slight change to my sneaker of choice :(
  12:25am
FMU:

Very temporary format change to News-Talk. This is your only warning.
  12:26am
DJ Terre T:

YES IT IS theee Oi Punk BUSINESS tix ya got there for Asbury LAnes!!!
  12:26am
AZ:

EFD, your vocal prowess on "...putting out fire..." surpasses even your weekly performance of "midnight."
  12:28am
DJ Terre T:

I 4got 2 play HARRY MAY by the Business this past Sat, when i gave those tix away! Im sooo tempted 2 go!
  12:29am
DJ Terre T:

Hai Danne D-- u mean u dont have Puffy White Reeboks kicking everyone's a** anymore?!
  12:29am
Danne D:

thought it was his weekly performance of "ticket", AZ :)

Not calling in this week to try to win, but is there a "whatever show Evan deems coolest" option for winning - I trust his judgment more than my own :)
  12:32am
AZ:

Danne: yes, of course. Maria Muldaur still gets to sing "midnight."
  12:37am
bill k:

This sputnik song is nice.
  12:39am
efd:

Bill, I agree! And I feel that I owe them a bit of an apology, as I'll explain on the air shortly.
  12:44am
Joshua K:

Curses!!! I totally forgot about valley lodge tonight and was watching Breaking Bad instead. Now i gotta hit up the archives tomorrow at work.
  12:47am
osvi:

Them funky beats...
  1:19am
Danne D:

We're back in NYC rock show mode again. But Evan's show just has that mesmerizing effect on us sometimes :)

Oops! didn't see TT's message about my kicks - yes and no. The specific Reeboks (the BB4600 II's) are apparently no longer sold at foot locker - the only place that sold 'em. The BB4600's sold elsewhere (which are different and IMO inferior) are still sold in a couple places - ordered 2 pairs from Sears. almost had to get a totally new model of sneakers though for the first time in like 24 years!

I'm checking out board peeps - but will catch the end on the archives. Thanks for a great show as always EFD!!! Farewell Funketeers!
  1:22am
efd:

Have a good night, Danne!
  1:25am
AZ:

The shift into part II always gets me...
  1:29am
efd:

yeah! Haven't heard that in ages, sounds great on the CD too.
  1:36am
AZ:

Did you catch the somewhat amazing interview with Mr. Ant in The Quietus two weeks ago?

http://thequietus.com/articles/04165-adam-ant-interview-oasis-lady-gaga-madonna-punk
  1:42am
AZ:

You could at least play The Archies...
  1:48am
efd:

yeah, that's what i was thinking too at first... but I'm not sure if I want to get into playing "Billie Jean" or "Scarborough Faire."
  1:48am
efd:

didn't see that interview - thanks for the link, I'll check it out later in the week. The link text is pretty intriguing in itself!
  11:49am
Loretta:

Teenage Lust & the Lustettes...... wow..... a blast fom the past!!! we need more Lust!!!
