Listener comments!

  11:08pm
Vanda Young:

you did it again, EFD. that first track I haven't heard in 35 years
  11:12pm
efd:

It's what I do.
  11:13pm
lex dexter:

great set so far. gtr/synth vibes on eggstone kinda remind me of some better cuts off the first Frank Black solo alb. but maybe that's pretty faint praise?
i dunno, but i'm having a grand old time, anywho!
  11:17pm
Vanda Young:

what might be the best way to find some Eggstone on the CD? near impossible to find?
  11:18pm
Vanda Young:

I also was reminded of Frank Black... and The Sugar Plastic
  11:18pm
G:

gee, ya think the westminster dog show here in NYC ended just now or something?
  11:19pm
Joe B:

welcome back Evan!
  11:20pm
G:

bitchin.
  11:25pm
efd:

Thanks Joe!

VY - eBay, maybe?
  11:27pm
AZ:

I'm impressed that you're nine songs deep into a set of dog songs without even using "Shannon" or "Marie Provost"...
  11:27pm
Vanda Young:

good call - just copped Somersault for $4 shipped - vinyl is $20+
  11:30pm
AZ:

Also: the photos RULE.
  11:30pm
efd:

AZ, I thought about "Shannon" but decided to pass. (Sorry, John F, if you're out there.)

This is also the first time I haven't played the Devo "Whip It," but I figured I just played them a couple of weeks ago...

VY, nice work!
  11:34pm
Vanda Young:

a skinny, nervous, twitching couch potato
  11:41pm
emma b:

thank you, evan funk davies, daaaawwwwg
  11:42pm
Kendall!:

I have a Scottie they are: the best. Evan post a picture of my dog please.

  11:53pm
Vanda Young:

I always liked the song that came *after* My Sharona - Heartbeat
  11:55pm
Vanda Young:

this one goes out to Tom and Mickey
  11:56pm
efd:

Kendall, I'll swap out the Scottie pic I have for yours in a little while when I get a chance.

VY - I missed your song by 1 cut!
  11:58pm
efd:

Rebel Rebel much?
  12:00am
Michael from the Left Coast:

Amazing that in almost every obit that I read of Doug Fieger (except the NY Times) they omitted that Sharona was 17 when Doug started dating her (and he was 26 at the time). Not to besmirch the dead, especially Doug who was a good guy, but it seems to me if that had happened today it would have been a career ender (if not arrest worthy)
  12:04am
Joe:

I knew there was only one DJ on WFMU with the balls to do a Knack tribute.

kudos, sir.
  12:07am
efd:

thanks, Joe.

Michael, interesting point. R. Kelly comes to mind, though that's not exactly the same situation.
  12:08am
Aharon:

Was that song a couple back a total Bowie ripoff or what? (Not that I'm complaining, and anyway, beyond the grave there's no copyright law, or so says my ouija).
  12:10am
Michael from the Left Coast:

Clearly Doug and Sharona had something to their relationship, and she certainly inspired some great songs (most notably a good chunk of Get the Knack) , vast age difference and legality notwithstanding
  12:13am
Vanda Young:

dating is not illegal
  12:14am
Joe B:

I think the main problem was the second album came out too soon after Get the Knack. That debut was everywhere for so long. Kinda like Frampton with I'm In You.

Nowadays u2 and Bon Jovi et al have their market research teams determine the best plan of attack.
  12:15am
Joe B:

meaning I'm In You came too soon after a blockbuster
  12:16am
Aharon:

Oh, whoops, I will catch up on the other posts before adding my half-penny's worth.
  12:17am
Age of Majority:

"dating" is a *euphemism*.
  12:18am
Vanda Young:

good ear, Aharon. I don't think I'd have noticed that lift if efd hadn't posted
  12:18am
Kendall!:

dating is legal near you?
  12:25am
Sybil:

euphemisms are illegal?
  12:28am
Vanda Young:

illegal is dating legal?
  12:28am
Aharon:

Thanks, EFD, from this jittery caller. Your turntable skills are matched by your switchboard skills.
  12:40am
Ernestine:

That efd's a switchboard pro! {snort!}
  12:46am
john:

Good night for a dog tribute! Just back from a night at the opera to find the dog had rather spectacularly messed his crate, and by extension, the atmosphere of the whole apartment. Can't tell you how glad we are to get an hour or so of your show!
  12:55am
john:

Well, that was a conversation stopper. Sorry about that. Just reading back....I totally understand about Shannon. A bit on the cliché side, to be sure. Still...sniff.
  12:57am
efd:

ha... i was just waiting for a minute to offer my sympathies on your atmospheric misfortune. Sorry my show isn't in smell-o-vision (though maybe it's just as well).
  1:08am
john:

Thanks. It's been so much easier for the last five years or so when it's just been a bit of cat sick. I'm still adjusting to having a 12 year old three-legged Chihuahua of the Baskervilles™ in the house...
  1:16am
Vanda Young:

game theory - they got the quote right
  1:21am
efd:

right, it wasn't "What's the frequency, Kenneth."
  1:35am
Joshua K:

Keep on rockin
  1:37am
Danne D:

Hi Evan and Funk Fans :)

EFD - did your gaggle of admirer adopt you yet for the marathon?*

* - singular on purpose
  1:40am
Michael from the Left Coast:

EFD--what year is this 3 titans track?
  1:42am
kamper:

Evan, you've given me the courage to return to correspondence school. I can do it!!
  1:42am
john:

Liked the Roxy Jones; marginally different from Karen Dalton's version.
  1:44am
Aharon:

Under the wire, Danne! But you got the wrong animal. It's a dray of admirer. Or maybe a fluther.
  1:46am
Aharon:

3 Titans are currently, I believe, 5th graders, and very much of the moment.
  1:46am
Michael from the Left Coast:

3 Titans is current
sounds old
They look to be about eleven years old each
  1:47am
Tobias Record:

C-O-2xL-E-G-E damn that joint was hot.

Can you do an Atlantics joint? Maybe Hme On The Rane' or 'Boo Hoo Hoo' (Ramapart). Hell, anything by Rampart! I'm listening from Los Angeles!
  1:50am
Danne D:

Not sure if you were asking for the year of the 3 titans song but it's brand new:

Menahan street band Feb 19 2010 8:00P
Music Hall Of Williamsburg
  1:51am
Danne D:

Awesome that they released it as a 45 furthering the Old School effect
  1:51am
efd:

thanks for the 3 titans info, guys.

Tobias, too late for me to squeeze in any requests i'm afraid, but thanks for listening.

Danne D - no adoption paperwork yet! We'll see if they put their money where their typing fingers are.
  1:54am
Danne D:

Usually I adopt a dog or dog painting but I might switch it up this year if I get my act together. (And yes last time at FMU I did in fact take a picture of the Knuckles Painting with my adoption written below it :D )

Btw, in related 3 Titans news, the backing band - Menahan Street Band - is playing at the Music Hall of Williamsburg on this coming Friday (though the ticketmaster link was dead)
  1:54am
Danne D:

Dang I'm a fast typer but slow thinker today :(
  1:55am
osvi:

Hey EFD, just dropped some scrill and picked up that new marathon t-shirt. Can't wait for marathon time, maybe I can pick up that second one then...
  1:57am
efd:

awesome Osvi, thanks for the support!

Thanks everyone for listening and commenting, see you next week!
  1:57am
Danne D:

No less than 50 cent and Jay Z have sampled the Menahan Street band btw.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menahan_Street_Band

And with that - have a lovely night Funk Faithful!!! :D
Cheers!
