toni daytona:

  11:11pm
E.L.:

I remember seeing Money Mark open for Beck down in DC way back when. I have this song in some corner of my CD bins.
  11:13pm
Joe:

OH.

I get it.

Wow, it literally took me until the 4th song to get the theme.

Also - did not know you were a Prince fan. I'm more of a "Morris Day and the Motherfuckin' TIME" guy, myself.
  11:13pm
Brendan:

On the money with Prince, Evan.
  11:14pm
efd:

Toni Daytona, as I live and breathe! Haven't seen you around these parts for quite some time. Happy almost-birthday to you!

And howdy, E.L. and Joe!
  11:16pm
Amanda:

This is my favorite Prince song. I was blissfully unaware of the theme because I just tuned in. But anyway.
  11:16pm
E.L.:

Toni, isn't your birthday on the 12th? Happy early birthday.
  11:18pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

I'm trying to remember if Dan Hartman did any "seven" songs which would segue nicely from this one
  11:18pm
toni daytona:

thank you soo much evan & e.l
  11:18pm
sf spike:

Heaven indeed! You just made my day a little bit brighter.
  11:19pm
randy in NC:

Was wondering if anyone else hears a strange audio compression on the 128K MP3 feed?
  11:21pm
toni daytona:

evan---i know it's been a while but i've been takin terrific care of brad,,,
  11:26pm
toni daytona:

  11:29pm
Laurie:

How stupid am I? Today is 7/7. Okay, I get it now.
  11:31pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

  11:34pm
Joe:

What's a "record"?
  11:37pm
Billy_Leather:

seven and seven is... Love
  11:37pm
Amanda:

I thought about selling a bunch of my records this week. I appreciate that PSA.

Still waiting to hear a Sesame Street clip that ends with a chef dropping 7 cakes down the stairs.
  11:40pm
toni daytona:

evan do you any janie jones tonite??
  11:42pm
evan:

evan
  11:43pm
toni d.:

*have
  11:44pm
efd:

Michael and Billy, I actually ran into the library and pulled "7&7 Is," but felt like the set was getting a little long and hit-heavy already.

Amanda, I was thinking of that too - I feel like I just used that for something, but now I can't remember what!
Oh! cinco de mayo, never mind.
  11:47pm
anemone:

the heartbreaks' version of 7&7 is is really cool too. I think efd has played them before, or maybe i heard them on joe belock's show.
  11:49pm
DJ Terre T:

I remember your first fillin Evs...that was great! And i 4got how good that Teenage Lust song was! Thanx 4 bringing out again bro!
  11:50pm
dave:

what was that background beat during the 'dj talk' after the sevens set ?
  11:52pm
toni daytona:

i wish i could stay but i have skip out but i'll still be listening,,could you please give me a birthday shout out,,, remember i'll be listening,,,,,thank you for being warm & kind,,g'nite evan=)
  11:53pm
Joe:

*ahem*

The talkover bed is a loop from the Lordz of Brooklyn song "Saturday Nite Fever", which itself is a sample from The Guess Who's "American Woman".
  11:53pm
efd:

Joe, that's your cue!

Hey, it's DJ Terre T! Thanks for checking in!

Anemone, you're talking about me like I'm not even here! :)
  11:58pm
Sybil:

Hi all!

Dang, I missed the 7/7 set! Oh, well, that's what archives are for. Though, the set won't mean the same on 7/8 or 8/7, whatever.

I'm baaaaack... from Citi Field!
  11:59pm
Dean Rispler:

Evan! What's up? Another great start to your show. Love it. I heard this Jack-O song on Joe Belock's show yesterday. Great track. Sounds like X if they were filtered through Richard Hell. Very cool.
  12:01am
efd:

ooh! I'm going to CIti Field on Thursday! How was the game? I haven't seen the score.

Hi Dean, good to hear from you! And Joe, thank you for ably performing your assigned task once again.
  12:04am
toni d.:

please give me a birthday shout out evan,,,it would mean alot to me,,,
  12:04am
Dean Rispler:

Evan - I will be there Thursday as well. I just got tickets today. I hope to see you there. And I hope we are not disappointed by the current minor league Mets team.
  12:05am
Dean Rispler:

Oh, yes. The score was bad. You don't want to know.
  12:06am
DJ Terre T:

Ev, how on EARTH ur able to do the Acuplaylist, AND comments and Tickets giveaway AND yer show without an ASSociate PRODucer has always eluded me!
Ru sure u don't have a Mystery Acu-Elf there???!
  12:06am
Dean Rispler:

And - my old lawyer was once the bass player in Starz.
  12:08am
Joe:

... was he good?
  12:09am
efd:

Dean, that could only be better if your old lawyer were Dube instead.
  12:09am
Sybil:

Dodgers, 8-0. Poor Mets could have used some pitching. I thought about volunteering.

Manny 2 for 4, 3 RBI, struck out twice. The Mets fans got a lot of joy out of those stirkeouts. Heh. (Really, I like the Mets. Mostly.)

Citi Field is very beautiful and well-designed. I was impressed. The view from my left-field corner nosebleed seats was excellent. In fact, no bad lines of sight and you can even see the field from most of the food carts. It's quite a nice ballpark.

And we really lucked out on the weather. It was mostly clear while I was there. Got hit by the rain on the wasy home though. Only thing, too much wind coming in from the outfield. (I can see this is a pitcher's stadium) If no wind, maybe the Bums would have won eleventy-nine to 0. (Heh.)

Poor Mets. What is it, like 30 innings without an extra-base hit?
  12:09am
Michael from the Left Coast:

EFD--two bits of advice for you re Citi Field--
Get there early and go to Shake Shack!
  12:10am
Michael from the Left Coast:

syb--you forgot to mention Manny got tossed
  12:10am
Sybil:

Oh, and Kershaw pitched. Now I can tell my grandkiddies I saw him when he was barely legal.
  12:11am
Dean Rispler:

Joe - meaning was he good as a lawyer or as a bass player? I would say he was a better bassist than a lawyer.
And yes - Manny got tossed for throwing his helmet after a called strike 3.
  12:12am
Sybil:

Didn't forget, Michael - I wanted to look up what happened. (The people sitting in front of me prevented me from seeing it, they stood to applaud his strikeout.)
  12:14am
Sybil:

Manny wasn't happy with either of his called third strikes then.

I wasn't in a good position to judge.
  12:16am
Joe B:

Moment of silence, please ...

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Oscar G. Mayer, retired chairman of the Wisconsin-based meat processing company that bears his name, has died at the age of 95.
  12:16am
Sybil:

Another thing: they cancelled batting practice because of the weather. I went on purpose early for that, but it was fun walking around the stadium and looking at the food choices. Yum. They did a good job with the food too.
  12:17am
Sybil:

My b'loney has a first name...
  12:18am
Joe:

NO!
  12:20am
Michael from the Left Coast:

EFD--this song has the same chord change as I'm Your Man by Richard Hell and the Voidoids
  12:21am
Joe:

Who am I kidding, it's from the AP, it must be true...

Oh, now I'm sad -and- hungry. This former deli worker is going to go make a sandwich. A... sadwich.
  12:23am
efd:

a sadwich! that is awesome.
  12:23am
Sybil:

Joe, you speak for us all. Well, write. Well, for me.
  12:23am
Pete:

EFD:

Listener Pete here . . . Googling on Teenage Lust. Found a MySpace page, it appears that they were really called "Teenage Lust & The Lustettes. It appears that they have a compilation called "The Lost Lust Tapes" but don't know what label or if its on vinyl/CD. They may have recorded for Elektra. Anyway, if you could fill in the rest, it would be great because its a CD I'd love to get!
  12:25am
toni daytona:

i'm back just to say why won't you give me a SPECIAL b-day shout out evan?=(
  12:25am
efd:

Pete, thank you for undertaking that dangerous mission!
  12:26am
randy in NC:

efd, have you heard the human beatbox version of this by Dokaka? It's pretty cool.
  12:26am
efd:

Toni, I wished you a happy birthday in my very first comment of the night! No on-air shoutout though, if that's what you're asking about.
  12:27am
john:

Hmm, show's half over, which is an odd realization as I've had it on the whole time. Crazed packing for LA trip tomorrow, so will have reports from a variety of California ballparks over the next seven weeks or so....oh, and the Mets have not scored a run since Ellis Valentine scored Doug Flynn on a sacrifice fly in 1981 off the late Lefty Grove.
  12:28am
Joe B:

Turns out the Oscar Mayer that just died is the grandson, not the founder:

His grandfather, Oscar F. Mayer, died in 1955 and his father, Oscar G. Mayer Sr., died in 1965.
  12:30am
efd:

john, it's funny because it's true.

Joe, thanks for the update(s). Now I'm trying to figure out if the grandson's death warrants me playing that commercial from youtube.
  12:30am
Michael from the Left Coast:

For a second I thought the O Positive was dot dash by Wire!
  12:31am
Sybil:

Now I've got to retroactively mourn for my b'loney's names. Joe, oh.
  12:32am
Sybil:

Oh, and what Michael said.

We are listening to music, are we not?
  12:32am
Joe B:

wow, O Positive!
  12:34am
efd:

Michael, good ear! And thanks for the Citi Field tips (and to Sybil for the recap)! I'm hoping I can get out of work early enough to get to the park a little early and check it out.
  12:35am
Michael from the Left Coast:

I love Art Brut--they're like a modern version of the Fall (ah)
  12:37am
neil:

Opositive - what a great new find for me tonight, thanks!!!
  12:37am
john:

I'm thinking more a modern version of The Leighton Buzzards. No dry ice or flying pigs!
  12:38am
Laurie:

Fact: I now order my comics online because the boys in my local comic book shop were creeping me out. One of them was cute but totally jailbait and kept trying to feel me up. Uncool. I'm pretty sure he lied when he said he was still in high school but 18.

Also, anyone else hear "DC Comics and John Belushi"??
  12:41am
Michael from the Left Coast:

You know EFD that's what got Soupy Sales fired!
  12:41am
Sybil:

Laurie: me!

I thought I was the only one.
  12:43am
john:

No, I heard John Belushi repeatedly too, but I thought I was hallucinating due to the Mets not having scored a run in twenty-eight years.
  12:44am
Joe:

You're saying that the comic shop is not the place to be picking up older women?
  12:45am
Joe:

Please be Linda LInda, please be Linda Linda....

YES.
  12:45am
Laurie:

Older? How dare you. I'm in my mid-twenties. I think I was closer to my early twenties when I stopped going to the comic book shop every Wednesday.
  12:45am
Joe:

This is my summer jam this year. I am not even kidding as much as I wish I was/should be.
  12:46am
Michael from the Left Coast:

I love Andrew WK. Kind of like a modern Ramones
  12:46am
E.L.:

Laurie,

It is shocking that boys in a comic book store would even dare to talk to a girl. We didn't cotton to that in my day. It was all Skrulls talk 24/7 .
  12:48am
Dean Rispler:

Unfortunately AWK has yet to put out a record as great as his "I Get Wet" debut. That record rocks in all its cheesy glory.
  12:49am
Joe:

Errr... didn't mean that you were -old-... or -older-... just older than... the kid.

And I'm almost in my mid-twenties... so... that... also makes it less offensive. Somehow.

...
  12:50am
stingy d:

yo man, my feet are in bucket of ice.
  12:50am
Jessica:

Wow, this is awesome.
Music to rebuild back doors to. Raaawk.
  12:51am
stingy d:

damn i missed andrew wk
  12:52am
Joe:

And now, to seamlessly merge our topics - X-Wife... new Marvel hero?
  12:56am
efd:

hi Jessica! Stingy, what's up with your feet??
  12:57am
E.L.:

Joe,

If you could be any Skrull, which life form would you most want to imitate? I'd be an otter!

It's also good to have Bob Log III back.

...

Can I change my answer from an otter to Bob Log III?
  12:58am
stingy d:

i hopped a fence and landed heels first on some cobblestone, bout an 8 foot drop. two weeks and running. serious pain. also a dog ripped my face open with it's teeth. seperate incidents.
  1:00am
efd:

man, the dogs are rising up! Just ask commenteer Amanda, if she's still here.
  1:02am
Joshua K:

Desperate X-Wives, a group of wives of mutants and their daily struggles.
  1:04am
Danne D:

Hiya Funk Fans. Kinda doing the lay low thing tonight.

And Happy B-Day Toni! All the cool Cancerians dig the funk...
  1:05am
Joe:

man stingy, that sounds like a rough week. Hope you're staying medicated.
  1:05am
stingy d:

yea thats true i dig the funk.
  1:06am
stingy d:

out of percocet. going strong with this vicodin.
  1:09am
Sybil:

stingy d, wa5tch out for the aceitominaphen. Srsly.
  1:12am
Joe:

The Saucy Jacks - that reminds me, Spinal Tap was on TV yesterday.
  1:12am
Sybil:

Oh, my, nederglam!
  1:14am
efd:

not to be confused with the genre celebrating even *more* obscure tracks, nerderglam.
  1:14am
stingy d:

yea i'm well versed sybil. but thanks for the concern.

in other srsnss - i might have a cool scar on my face forever.
  1:16am
Danne D:

Hmmm. Keili does her boyfriend applications...is Evan Funk stealing a page from her playbook? Betcha EFD's mailbox would be full of apps :)

Anyhow Night folks.
  1:17am
Michael from the Left Coast:

Is this someone else's song?
  1:19am
Joshua K:

I wanna settle down with a nice WFMU girl some day
  1:19am
efd:

Michael, I don't think so. No writing credits on the case, maybe they're on the CD itself, but based on the pub credits onthe cd case it looks like they're all originals
  1:21am
stingy d:

no offense or anything. but i am always forced to absolutely fucking hate rap.
  1:24am
Jessica:

Wow, stingy d: congratulations on your resilience! High five for being here and hale to tell us about... gah. It doesn't take much to get the wrong dog coming right for you. I've been lucky/fast, arm's-length, midair, by the neck.
Here's to swift healing, adds-character, and an assortment of yarns to answer "how'd you ___" on the other side.
  1:29am
E.L.:

I'm glad that band is called Bare Wires and not Bear Wires because there are way too many bear and deer bands to keep up with these days.
  1:30am
Joe:

Plus, you know, the awful pun.
  1:31am
E.L.:

That too, yes.
  1:37am
stingy d:

thanks for the words jessica.

too many crystal bands too.
  1:42am
stingy d:

aw shit ass i just read your tweet that says if its not 2 listen to my show. and now i realize that its almost 2. fuck that man.
  1:49am
efd:

Stingy, I'm not seeing the problem.... it's before 2 and you're listening, so that's all good, right?
  1:50am
stingy d:

just gimme another 30, cool?
  1:51am
efd:

ha... you'll have to get those 30 from Marty McS. He'll treat you right.
  1:55am
Joshua K:

I hope Party McSurely is ready.
  1:55am
Joe:

Evan, fyi, it's "Party McSurely" now
  1:55am
E.L.:

Oh wait, July is the seventh month in the year. Now I get it!
  1:57am
stingy d:

yea it's cool, i just wasn't quite ready to get all transitiony. i was getting settled still. great kick to the finish here though! always a pleasure!
  1:57am
efd:

Joe and Joshua, duly noted. Thanks.

And a hardy-har-har to you, E.L.!
  1:59am
Joe:

Comedy gold right there E.L.

Radio gold as usual Davies
  1:59am
Brendan:

Ooh, a Sunny Day in Glasgow. Funny you played them Evan, I actually got into them after hearing something from Scribble Music on your show a couple years ago...
  10:53am
matt:
