I'm pretty good at keeping the playlist up but if I play a bunch of short things, I get behind. It also interferes with more "creative" dj-ing, if I'm worrying about keeping the accuplaylist up...

Woody, if listeners don't like particular songs, why do they feel it necessary to label it as "it sucks" when they know everyone has their own taste and what's good for one may not be good for another. Don't they realize there are folks out there that LIKED the song?

Positive feedback is good; negative feedback sucks. A positive comment would have been "I personally thought that song sucked. Did ANYONE like it?" In that way, you don't belittle the taste of other listeners who may not agree with you. Obviously, if WOODY played the song, HE likes it.

I would think it true that Woody need not _LIKE_ a song to play it -- it may fit well into the mood of the set, it might be interesting but hard to like, whatever. I would trust the DJ to provide the sounds that take the listener somewhere -- really doesn't have to be "likeable". (Woody--Great show!)

My opinion's yes, this Board's purpose is to allow the free flow of ideas and open communication, but not to belittle someone's taste in music or make blanket statements like, "you suck" or "it sucks." That just promotes animosity. Personally, when I don't like a song, I just wait for the next one.

Thanks for all the comments. Jim De is correct but I think the song in question was a 50cent/Leena Horne mashup, which I could imagine not being everyone's thing. Nonetheless, it's good to hear from folks and constructive criticism is always welcome! Thanks again!

Righto. I am a frequent reader of the popular social blog "Metafilter.com". This issue of personal taste comes up often, and is humorously characterized as "<your favorite band> sucks!". To me, seems part of the ebb and flow of very broad interchange enabled by the internets.

I don't play music that I don't like although occasionally for flow, songs that wouldn't make it on a prospective girlfriend's mixtape can make it on-air. and the occasional mis-cue :)

If someone enters the public spectrum in a "creative" role (read:DJ) then like any artist they should be prepared to accept comments if they are connecting with their audience or not, they do what they want with that feedback. If you're afraid to get feedback stay home and load your I-pod. Simple enough?

i dont agree that any person in the public sphere should be open to instantaneous criticism. if I go to a concert and a band plays a song I dont like, it would be obnoxious for me to scream "that song sucked!" Same as if I go to a comedy club - the comic tells a klunker and it's cool for me to start yelling "that joke sucked!" Give me a break! if you're here listening to the station, take the good with the bad. If you hate what the DJs playing, turn the station. If on the other hand youhave constructive criticism, offer it. But posting "that song sucked" is pointless and stupid.

Old "fleximatic" doesn't sound too flexible. Did anybody suggest screaming at performers during concerts? The key word here was "internet", are you not paying attention? I don't think so...the beauty here is that we can give comments as the playlist rolls on...simple enough?

I think the point Flexmatic and I were trying to make was that negative criticism is counter-productive. What can be learned from such a listener's comment? Certainly NOT that the song actually did suck, as that's a totally subjective value. So all we learned from such a comment is that YOU ALONE felt that song sucked. And what are we to do with THAT information? It was a waste of time to say.
