Yeah, that is 100% true. I'm shocked at the politics of a lot of old shows I used to watch. I think the world was a lot different back then.

For that matter, so is everybody. It's been interesting to see how they try and balance out the "wildness" of a show about a rock and roll radio station by having everyone occasionally show a fairly serious conservative streak

Krys O.:

↳ postconsumer @8:06
That's to appease the standards and practices censors.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:08pm
postconsumer:

anyway, Venus comes out agains abortion (more or less) at one point, Fever has some fairly noticable homophobia, and while they talk about sex, all the time, it doesn't appear as if anyone is actually having any. 😆
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:09pm
postconsumer:

All that said, I absolutely love the show, and when they say it's practically exactly the way a radio station can be run, I'd say they're pretty right-on.

Reminds me a lot of my college radio station. 🤩
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:09pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Krys O. @8:07
Very true! Talking to TV Writers, I'm surprised at how many character / plot / details were included in shows merely to appease some arcane aspect of standards and practices. Some writers have told me about negotiating with some networks, asking if the characters could say this in exchange for saying something else down the road. It's very strange.

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:18pm
Austin Rich:

My dad does not talk to me much, and rarely has anything to say, unless really prodded. I don't even know much about his taste, in general. He's pretty secretively.

One day, I went to visit him, and he started getting really serious. "I just wanted to say: when they first came out, I really didn't give AC/DC a chance. Recently I listened to them again, and they were great." Then he got a little quiet. "Don't let that happen to you. You should give AC/DC a chance."

And that was it. That was about as much on that subject he was willing to say.

Michael Des Barres was in To Sir with Love with Lulu and Sidney Poitier. He was in different bands and did solo albums, but couldn't find any named Scum. He was in Silverhead in the 70s before he married Pamela Des Barres of the GTOs.

I wish I knew more about my grandparents. I never met my mom's father. I only saw my dad's parents occasionally, and even then, my grandfather didn't tell a lot of stories, and didn't seem to like kids. (Or, at least, didn't seem to like me much.) When I hear stories about him, it doesn't really sound like the person I knew.
