Back in the mid-80s I lived briefly at 16 Parkside. I'll never forget hearing Harry Chapin's Taxi song. The gal's destination in the song was....16 Parkside Lane. That was an extremely odd feeling.

That's like Do or DIY, the precursor to the Sheena stream, when Vicki collaborated with Gwilley Edmondez where they 'scoped' the hits at top speed with their voices.

I also look up things like the minimum wage when I was in high school in the late 70s. Hint: It was about $3 an hour.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:22pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Krys O. @8:20
Ha! I think my first job was $4 an hour? I remember when minimum wage here went up to 4.50 an hour, and it was a big deal.

I'll never forget a job where they tried to get me excited about getting a ten cent raise per hour.
Avatar 🎸 8:24pm

↳ Austin Rich @8:22
A couple times I got "raises" officially because the minimum wage went up. Has been a long time since the federal minimum wage went up ... I don't see it happening again for awhile either
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:24pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Krys O. @8:23
I remember those kinds of reviews, too! "You really worked hard this year. We'll offer you another 15 cents an hour." Guh?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:26pm
Austin Rich:

↳ MarkTime @8:24
Oh yeah! I love when they pass off the "federal increase" as a raise. I'm like, "well, that's a start..."

I don't think I ever made a good wage, at any job I've had.

Fascinating learning about Kennywood. It opened in 1898.

"The amusement park features various structures and rides dating back to the early 1900s. Along with Rye Playland Park, it is one of two amusement parks in the United States designated as a National Historic Landmark."

I worked at Playland Amusement Park in high school. Oddly enough it's run by Westchester County and that meant that they could get away with paying me LESS than minimum wage. I managed the ladies' locker room for the pool. Rode my bike to work, two miles each way.

That reminds me of the old SNL sketch about a bank that just makes change. When asked how they make a profit, the reply is: volume.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:53pm
Austin Rich:

True story: my mom and her sister bought all the Beatles albums and singles as they were coming out, and shared a collection. I was gifted that collection, eventually. When my aunt was getting sick, I made some Beatles mixes for her from the records she bought as a kid. She LOVED THEM. They're not my favorite band, but I did like making those mixes.
