A combination of collage, new experimental records and other bits and bobs, Mid-Valley Mutations is a tour through the mind of Austin Rich, who has been broadcasting in some form since 1998. Heavily influenced by Dr Demento, Don Joyce and old fashioned College Radio, Austin creates Audio Essays on a variety of subjects, and even just plays records, from time to time. Sometimes Live music and Interviews will grace the program, helping create a situation where you don't really know what you're going to hear, when you tune in. What you need to know is when you enter the Mid-Valley region, be prepared for the Musical Mutations... in whatever form they take.

Just saying hello. Will be lurking, making tacos, and preparing Austin's birthday present for shipment...

I used to watch Quantum Leap every week!

My favorite episode was the one where the main character played Oswald. It kinda overlaps with Stephen King's later book, 11.22.63, which does involve time travel, but not through the eyes of Oswald. That is one case where the TV series was better than the book, I thought.

I am not a movie expert, although I like the ritual of it. I would like to watch television/netflix series that are truly creative. I don't watch them much. So far, I like Twin Peaks, Stranger Things, and to some extent, Dark Shadows. After 250 episodes of Dark Shadows, I think my viewings are more charitable, but the first two seasons are charming, clumsy, and also clever.

The first four seasons of Dexter were amusing, but not exactly surreal in that way that thrills me, for example. True Detective was similar. Great work, but I don't need to watch more cop shows really.

Ha! I don't think that would be my cup of tea! But if that floats your boat, go for it!

I don't know, I think I need a surrealist aspect, or a supernatural aspect to film to really take it into the next level of my appreciation. I don't claim that everyone should feel this way. For example, The Prisoner was not technically surreal, but I found it to be touching in that way...

I hear that there are a lot better romance novels these days, even a bunch that are from men's points of view. (Of every orientation, too.) There's one series about a group of guys who usually have a friend with love problems, so they have a book group and recommend to him a book that will "solve" his love problems. I haven't read it, but it is very popular at our store, among all genders, it appears.
