Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from November 8, 2024 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Roger Waters was a Brilliant songwriter up to and including "wish you were here"; and "animals" is excellent, though i wouldn't call it Brilliant. i'd have Loved to've seen pink floyd up to that point -definitely not since.
as a human being? he's done some unsavory things, apparently; but he's a straight-up Good Guy compared to, say yoko ono, captain beefhart, Chuck Berry, Mick Jagger... (etc etc)
certainly not a worse human being than, say, justin beiber, Aretha Franklin, Todd Rundgren (etc etc etc etc etc etc)

In 2016, when Trump lost the popular vote to Clinton, I could easily blame the Electoral College, not the people. 2016 was the stolen election, not 2020. But in 2024, Trump won the popular vote over Harris by some 4.5 million votes. So it's hard to say "this is not America." The best I can manage is, paraphrasing the Bible, "Forgive them, Lord, for they know not what they do."

democracy and uber capitalism aren't exactly sympatico, to say the least. And many people see the two major parties as ineffectual in dealing with the results of living in the economy we have. The democrats talked alot about the middle class this time around...but have not addressed the mass inequality which has developed over the last 40 years...Americans understand the parties as a political class but unfortunately have not sense of class in the economic sense..

UM, thanks for playing "This is Not America" by Bowie and Metheny. I think I want to go back and watch the Sean Penn/Tim Hutton film, "The Falcon and the Snowman.". Those musical themes ran throughout the movie. I spent 37 years living on the Palos Verdes Peninsula in southern California where those two characters were raised. The way in which their story played out was compellingly presented. Penn was especially impressive as the(pardon my French!) the "fuck-up" of the pair in their attempt to pull off an act of espionage. Great cinema! Superb soundtrack!

Hi hilary, I hear you on all of that. I was talking to someone who had raised his family here and moved here from Egypt in the 60s and he said he thought the Democrats had done nothing for the people (in recent history). I think a lot of people are living on very low wages. I don't know if that can ever be changed by either party. (Personally, I think the Democrats have always been better for working people.) I wish we could get out of this 2-party system

There a good presentation on the internet showing the difference between how people want income to be distributed, how they think it IS distributed and the actual numbers.
I but you know how thta goes. The top percents hog so much wealth that there's no path for a good 60% of the country to go anywhere. So when there's a disruption - an emergency, moderate inflation which is in fact global and not under presidential control to a great extent, the people already hurting are pushed over the edge. Not that immigration has anything to do with that, but it's a traditional scapegoat. www.youtube.com...

If there is a real, free and fair election in 2028, which I kinda doubt there will be. But if we're lucky enough to have another, what you said was something I thought of last night. And I was so impressed with Coach Tim.

It would be great if the current prez could take some action during this lame duck period.
I wonder just who is currently applying for a pardon before the "enemies within" are punished as promised by the evil orange one and his ass licking cohorts.

The problem is, he has many more like minded (and worse) cronies he's bringing into his government. Andf the judges-the right is already.licking their lips about all the right wing judges they can put in now (with Trump and the Senate in their hands). And there's talk of replacing the 2 oldest right wing Supreme Court judges (Ailito and Thomas, who are probably close to retirement), with young Heritage approved judges now.
