Today: Christopher Brown, author, “A Natural History of Empty Lots”
In a quest to “make life feel a little more real,” tech lawyer Chris Brown started exploring the wilderness outside his house on the edge of Austin, Texas. Chris’s reflections on how we impact on the natural world, and how we can improve, are collected in his beautifully written new book “A Natural History of Empty Lots: Field Notes from Urban Edgelands, Back Alleys, and Other Wild Places.”

At the end of 2019, in the English countryside, Australian playwright David Finnigan began writing a play about the six turning points that have brought us to this moment in time—our ecosystems transformed, our planet on the brink of unthinkable climate disaster. But then Finnigan's hometown of Canberra was hit by bushfires. As an area the size of England burned and one billion animals perished, he started to receive texts from loved ones racing to evacuate amid the devastation. In a performance that interweaves 75,000 years of humanity with the incredibly personal account of his best friend’s escape, Finnigan calls on scientific research, phone footage, and a very personal story to illuminate the transforming planet and how we’ve arrived here. An extraordinary ride through human history, DEEP HISTORY is shot through with humor and glowing with hope.

On my return trip home I found a central air conditioning unit on the sidewalk. Apparently the guys I saw a few minutes earlier unloaded it onto the sidewalk, because they couldn't fit it through the break in the fence which lead to a canyon.

if ya go to the Jamaica Bay WildLife Sanctuary ... ya can register for free and get an OFFICIAL "Urban Ranger" ID [no photo..] .. is useful if ya do "Unofficial" wanderings around NYC and the cops show up .. Ya pull out the card [have real ID too] and say "I am an Urban Ranger" and doing Bird Counting ... Ya need a genuine ID too .. and no illegal drugs...

Idiotarod NYC is an annual event that puts a satirical, creative spin on that totally-unrelated annual event in Alaska. Idiotarod NYC features costume-clad teams and their elaborately-themed shopping carts in a "race" through NYC that emphasizes showmanship over speed.
Also, bribery.
For more info, go to http://bit.ly/idiotgroup. To race, email idiotarodnyc@gmail.com & we will provide you with a registration form...
