The Radio Is Broken is a three-hour spelunk through the canyons and fissures of humanity's collective unconscious. It sounds as if a field recording of the Culture Industry were a sonic juggernaut barreling down a rickety track—except that tunnel ahead is just painted onto a sheer cliff wall. With occasional forays into what might pass for "normal" music. Prerequisite journey: Cratedigger's Lung

Christian Marclay | Stop Talk | Stop Talk | New American Radio | 1990 |
A single-sided cassette commissioned in 1990 by New American Radio. "Old arias, scratched symphonies, pop ballads, cut-up verses, disco beats, children's stories, and numerous other vocal and musical fragments, mixed and manipulated into a lyrical composition on multiple turntables and a 16-track tape recorder. Subliminal narratives flicker into existence only to dissolve instantly, then reform like micro worlds momentarily glimpsed and lost. "I want to trigger the mechanisms of memory," Marclay says, "to bring to the surface what has been deposited in our collective and personal memories. |

I laughed a somewhat maniacal laugh when I displayed Darby Crash with a speech bubble in my library. \m/

Right now I'm working on a big list of graphic novels our library should order. We have a decent collection but we haven't gotten any new ones in a long long time. My boss has already started ordering a buncha titles from my list. I'm so psyched!

Now the display table is for themes they choose. The new and notable has become several rows, sort of a mini library within the library. I sometimes browse along the rows but there are so so many it is not as conducive to impulse discoveries.
Rich in Washington:
Actually, I went downstairs to grab a snack and noticed this piece had long echoey loops and I had to run up here to check that I didn't accidentally leave a feedback loop going by mistake. Nope.
