Yesterday, in lieu of a recorder lesson, which is really just my teacher and I playing duets, she on flute, we performed for a retired couple in Berkeley at their home. The wife/mother/grandmother has dementia, and she enjoys live music. Though I did better "on stage" than during practice, I am also capable of delivering more than a hair's sharpness and shrillness, which didn't seem to bother anybody. But she did point out that my hair is graying. This was our first meeting. She also noted that my belly is big, which I attributed to the spaghetti I'd had for breakfast, as well as my affection for beer. She agreed that the trade-off was worth it.

From the NYT obit for Dan Morgenstern, an account I wish I could say I'd witnessed first-hand:

“One night in 1949 or so,” he added, “a friend of mine and our dates wound up closing Jimmy Ryan’s; the clubs were all open until 3 or 4 in the morning then." The great New Orleans clarinetist and soprano saxophonist Sidney Bechet was leading a quartet that night, he recalled, “and at one point Sidney sat down, pulled up a chair and put his feet up so he could stretch his legs. He closed his eyes and played a slow blues for about 15 minutes. It was so marvelous.”

Urban Dictionary on "fean":

"A term used to describe someone addicted to nicotine or vaping others may use it to describe people who go to West Scranton high School"

Just as I suspected.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am
Jeff Golick:

↳ Dean @11:17
See also: "FEAN started as a musical artist-in-residence project in a little church in the Frysian village Katlyk. The group consists of Jan Kleefstra, Romke Kleefstra, Mariska Baars and Rutger Zuydervelt (Machinefabriek), who also form the quartet Piiptsjilling. For FEAN they are accompanied by Belgian guests Annelies Monseré, Sylvain Chauveau and Joachim Badenhorst.

The FEAN project gets its inspiration from the ecological decay of peatland in the Dutch province Friesland and in other parts of Europe. Agriculture and peat extraction are threatening the landscape severely and with long term consequences. This forms the underlying thought for the improvised recording sessions, which were overseen by Jan Switters."
