I used to own the GL Solo Record on vinyl. (Why did I ever give it up?) I also heard him live a few times, most notably with Leroy Jenkins, Andrew Cyrille and Anthony Hopkins (although GL played some kind of electronic instrument throughout most of the concert). I think that band eventually recorded Space Minds, New World, Survival of America in 1978.

I never get why you would want to go hear great music, then struggle to talk over it (and disturb all the listeners). Makes me CRAZY when that happens.
The Micros were great! (saw 1.5 sets, was only supposed to see the 2nd set, but I was there early and they let me in.
Prospect Park does well for rock bands (used to go there a lot. lived 2 blocks away); you need to get there early and get the front fold up chairs for acoustic music, methinks.

I don't think they will last long there. Despite their 30+ year history, they'll be cast as gentrifiers for taking over a beloved space. Unfair, but they'll have a huge target on their back, and killing them would be an easy political win

One more book report -- this spring I finally followed up on a few-years-old tip from this very radio show and read "From a Broken Bottle Traces of Perfume Still Emanate" by Nathaniel Mackey. A bit of an aggressively difficult read. At this point, I am not accustomed to being forced to look up words -- mostly they turned out to be linguistic theory specialist terminology. But he has a wicked sense of humor, and where else are we going to read a long and free-flowing novel about free musicians getting into progressively stranger situations?

For financial reasons, it's been a fight with 2 or 3 venues out of 4 surviving. Not a pretty sight

Can't not brag, but Lewis assigned a piece I wrote in law school to his Columbia undergraduate students:
https://www.jazzstudiesonline.org/resource/sonic-texts-black-atlantic

During the '00s, when I was in law school, a buddy of mine made a movie about music, technology, and improvisation, featuring Jon Rose, John Luther Adams, and others. We interviewed one of the subjects, Miya Masaoka, in my Berkeley apartment.

Even more impressive to me than Lewis' approval (though he might have used the paper, as did a music professor at Cambridge in a Duke University Press anthology, as an example of how not to think about improvisation), was my law school professor's remark that I had taught her a new word, "autoschediastic." I revered that professor, and still do, who is simply brilliant. She also advised me to strip the word from the title and the text; I complied. Fast forward to just a few years ago, when Tyshawn Sorey presented his then new work, Autoschediasms.

It means, simply, improvised. OED: "Written, composed, etc., on the spur of the moment; extemporized, hastily improvised."

In fact, I learned of the work by searching OED for references to improvisation,.
