Mets all the way, Jeff. I do root for the Buccos (which still sounds like a breakfast cereal to me) when NY is not in the picture. But I absolutely loathe the Pirates' ownership, so I there is always a silver lining with the team loses.
That's fantastic, zzz! Glad you got and are enjoying. (And thanks for the support as always!)

Never heard Susan Alcorn before, but I like the reference to Barnett Newman's sculpture, Broken Obelisk (I think it's at the Museum of Modern Art, and I chant the Heart Sutra frequently at the Zendo I attend here in Jersey City.

Very naughty washer this morning. These washers 'nowadays' -- things get the least bit off balance and they wack out, playing around with the cycles trying to 'fix' it, and making things worse. A new trick today: a loadful with unrinsed soap. Give me an old dumb washer that just hops around the cellar until you come and take over.
Bennington College had an exhibit on Milford Graves's music and science/art (DJ Peter has a picture with a clock that he may reveal one day). They had some videos of this group there, which were the part of the show I enjoyed most, but you can only spend so much time standing with headphones on in one spot staring at a screen on a wall. One tape from Graves's basement unfortunately had inaudible bass. I guess now's my chance?
Hi Jeff, amazing show. I am imagining this 11 sided solid object record, and thinking rather than rotate under the needle, the needle must be free to move across the record as necessary
I did once hear Charles Gayle and Milford Graves together at the Vision Festival years ago. I remember thinking that CG was probably the only player who could hold his own with MG. (Although come to think of it both John Zorn and Anthony Braxton did a good job with MG.)
saw MG and JZ at the Zorn 50th bday celebrations at Tonic in september 2003 (omg, over 20 yrs ago…) one of the greatest live sets i’ve ever seen. praise jah for the CD release
@RRNov63: I bought Funhouse when it first came out in 1970 and listened to it dozens of times. A formative influence on my adolecente. (That explains a lot, doesn't it?) Lester Bangs wrote an insightful review of the record in Psychotic Reactions and Carburetor Dung. Whatever happened to saxophonist Steve Mackay? Did he ever record on another record?

obsessed with this beautiful record. 2 or 3 days after i purchased tickets to see this group at poisson rouge i got a notice that i was refunded snd show was cancelled :(
I wish someone would check to see if *I'm* dead in the morning. I often wonder.

Off to play guitar behind the old tombstones…several sub-basements below all these people, under the Tower of Song. Thanks for another great show, Jeff! It’ll be okay.

FWIW, the last track on Machine Gun's Pass the Ammo, "To Be Continued,' was recorded at WEBO Performance Space. Filmmaker Caroline Koebel writes in Otherzine, 10 Feb. 2013, "Later, I curated the film [Barbara Rubin's Christmas on Earth] into the Body Hold Out Festival at WEBO Performance Space on the Lower East Side."

@RRNov36: Thanks. I agree. Pauline Kael is another reviewer who was a better writer than she was a critic. The critical judgement and reasoning of both Bangs / Kael was questionable but their writing was always vivid. Both of them might have been better off (if less famous) as novelists rather than critics.
Bangs well-informed tho - & 'Rawk Journalism' barely existed if @ all when he began.
Like the thing with Thompson. Very very smart & observant. & now *everyone's* a 'Gonzo Journalist' aren't they. If not necessarily informed, observant or articulate...
