Someone quoting The Hound to the effect that Johnny/Dolls heard TP + Mudcrutch when they were about to change name, and when Johnny left the Dolls he thought no one would "notice his appropriation"

"The Hound, who was participant in the New York Dolls’ 1975 Florida residency (as described in the book “Please Kill Me”), spoke about this years ago on his WFMU program:
The Dolls played shows with Tom Petty’s group Mudcrutch, who were on the cusp of changing their name. Thunders took note of this when he abruptly quit, thinking nobody’d notice his appropriation!"

Márgarét, áre you gríeving
Over Goldengrove unleaving?
Leáves like the things of man, you
With your fresh thoughts care for, can you?
Ah! ás the heart grows older
It will come to such sights colder
By and by, nor spare a sigh
Though worlds of wanwood leafmeal lie;
And yet you wíll weep and know why.
Now no matter, child, the name:
Sórrow’s spríngs áre the same.
Nor mouth had, no nor mind, expressed
What heart heard of, ghost guessed:
It ís the blight man was born for,
It is Margaret you mourn for.

We were in our office in the Empire State Building (82nd Floor, facing south), when we saw in the New York Post that Liberace would be cutting the ribbon at the 50th anniversary of the skating rink that afternoon. We ditched work and smoked a joint on the way over to see this spectacle.
Liberace was there with a giant pair of novelty scissors, wearing a gold fur coat (if you can imagine such a thing), fingers covered with rocks, and there was a giant cake about ten feet high with a huge marzipan skate on top. And, there was no one there. The mayor, a few lackeys, couple of tourists, that’s it. This is 1985, and apparently we were the only Liberace fans who read the New York Post and worked in the neighborhood and could skip out to see the great man, or, simply enough, no one else gave a shit about an ancient queen cutting a ceremonial ribbon at tired old ice rink. But we were thrilled. After Liberace cut the ribbon, he was escorted by angels with wings into a chariot, and pulled around the ice rink to a throne where he could sit and purr while Dorothy Hamill skated for him. We were stoned and dizzy with all of this, but mostly Jeremy and I were left wondering, Where was the Penguin with an umbrella shooting purple smoke, or Mr. Freeze with his Ice Ray, to knock out Liberace and lift the jewels from his fingers? This is still my all-time favorite New York City moment. It was a time when it felt like anything was possible.
