Random cassette related story:

some years ago my neighbor, this old lady with alzheimer, moved away to a care home. Later, these moving people were emptying her apartment. I asked them about the stuff and they said I could salvage anything I wanted. Apparently a relative had checked the valuables and everything else was going to charity. I got some books, and small pile of cassettes with radio programs and music on them.

Some time ago I was going through the tapes with a friend who pointed out that one tape is NO WAY a radio-recording. It was a recording through a mic in a room. This cassette had bunch of people singing various songs... kids, ladies, older men. It was a collage of my neighbors relatives singing! I'm going through these tapes again if there's anything else I have overlooked, then plan to contact the lady's children or grandchildren. I expect these recordings to be of some sentimental value... :0

several summers were spent in atlantic beach with people who a called aunt and uncle but weren't, but they were nice and there were gatherings at what amounted to a small private beach across from the rockaways. there wasa water treatment plant there so the water was exceptionally clean and attracted ocean life. a man went in with an old style deep sea diving outfit and would come back with several speared lobsters. omce i saw a spider crab, like 3 feet tip of leg to tip of leg.
on year we were there for fourth of july and things were a little raucous some 12-14 yr olds were chucking firecrackers at each other, but things turned grimmer. the teens turned over a horseshoe crab and threw firecrackers into it until it caught fire it's legs still moving in the flames. even as a child, i could see what a profound sin this was to destroy something so ancient, and was not lost on me that it came with a celebration for this country

when i was 13 in japan, i was living on a military base. me and my friends would play laser tag on the golf course. when the military police (the shore patrol) would come for us, we'd just jump the barbed wire fence to get off base, and they couldn't touch us. I had a rough week.
Dad passed away on Saturday. We were optimistic he'd make it last week but concerned about quality of life. He was 89.
My sleep patterns and motivation to get up have been terrible.
The lady I want to go out with was the only person who came to a board game event I organized but said she is living in a cocoon, trying to finish her PhD.
