Pedro, me too. Mets announcers were noting that sometimes the home crowd starts rooting for the no-hitter. That's ridiculous. Saw that happen once in SF, when Kevin Brown no-hit the Giants. Couldn't believe my eyes.

Years ago a friend and I went to Rodger Cormans compound in Venice (an old lumber yard) to deliver a package (a bag of weed) to a friend who was working there. At the time, I worked on most of the major film lots in L.A. but going to Cormans studio was such a treat, as I grew up watching his trashy movies on late night T.V. in Los Angeles. The lumber yard in question was featured in Bucket of Blood where a bum selling newspapers and yelling 'Man gets his head cut off with a saw - read all about it!' is standing out front.

Years later, here I was!

They were the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees 2007 - 2012, then became the Rail Riders. The trend is to get away from using the name of the MLB affiliate. Probably sells more merch. The names now tend to be "unique local industry/history" + "quirky animal." Not sure why Syracuse went with "Mets." And of course the greatest minor league baseball name in history was not for a team but an owner in the 1960s: The Richmond Virginians' Romeo Champagne.

Syracuse franchise was picked up by the Mets, they upgraded the park, bought them a new scoreboard, painted Mr. Mets logos everywhere and changed the name to Syracuse Mets in 2018 after having been the Sky Chiefs and Chiefs for many years.

Unfortunately, the high ups began cutting minor-league affiliates a few years back in a contraction process. Greed. Most minor-league affiliations are short term contracts with the major league teams. When the Nats won the World Series in 2019, their AAA affiliate was Fresno. Not very convenient for calling up a player on short notice in case of injury. So they would stash their guys in the AA team closer by.

The Mets purchased the Syracuse Chiefs, a couple of years before the Chiefs contract with the Nats expired, leaving the Nats having to grab a minor-league affiliate on the other side of the country. That's kind of the way of the league -musical chairs every four years.

Yes, Anthro, but also a physics/stats (or some such) space, too. The spaces have been closed, but the collections and subject specialists remain. The materials are now integrated with the main library. The science move is arguably sensible, since most researchers work exclusively online. One of the most depressing sights I have seen was the smoking area (I won't call it a "lounge") in the Reno airport. A glassed cube, completely obscured with brown-gray fog, with the lights of slots winking in the depths of the murk.

Oh, I went in.

I had the same problem two years ago. The idiot tree trimmers cut off the veil, but neglected to get the points out of the powerlines. Fortunately, mulberry trees regenerate quickly. Anyway, as the old saying goes - new wood bears fruit. This year the veil is back, and dropping fruit like a motherfucker!

Those smoking areas seem positively carceral.

Willie was an old time hipster/entertainer and a beautiful cat. what stories he had - he played the opening of the Cal-Neva Lodge! The Smithereens hired him as a greeter (bari sax around his neck) at a record release bash at Barney's Beanery in the early 90s. to quote one of his fab 45s, may he "Restum In Peace"!

As you predicted, the singer wasn't really up to the task.
He also kept us waiting for half an hour while somebody went to fetch him a milkshake. Band was good. I was surprised and interested that much of the crowd dressed like they were going to a symphony gala. There was a heckler behind me who decided to sing "The Killing Moon" because Ian M. was doing a pretty bad job of it (though better than this guy). I turned around to see who this noisome fellow was. He looked like he came from work at the law fim, defending a platinum mining concern against environmentalists.
