• Tech exec predicts billion-dollar AI girlfriend industry (Futurism, April 13, 2024): “former WeWork exec Greg Isenberg said that after meeting a young guy who claims to spend $10,000 a month on so-called ‘AI girlfriends,’ or relationship-simulating chatbots, he realized that eventually, someone is going to capitalize upon that market the way Match Group has with dating apps.”
• Philosophy Talk, April 15, 2024 episode: “As we approach the advent of autonomous robots, we must decide how we will determine culpability for their actions. Some propose creating a new legal category of “electronic personhood” for any sufficiently advanced robot that can learn and make decisions by itself. But do we really want to assign artificial intelligence legal—or moral—rights and responsibilities?”

As for emotional stuff, I'm both {high-functioning autistic} and picky enough that I very rarely find a human interesting and straight-forward enough to make their company superior to being alone. I never mistake a robot for a sentient being, but I don't hold that against them.

Matthew: You know, she is
just like a woman. Every time I wanna have just a nice, little
afternoon together, her CPU crashes, and I gotta drag her down to the shop before she wigs out
and kills everything in sight. She's usually pretty nice, though.
