I loved how in an early Carpenters appearance on the BBC, Richard introduced their Bacharach/David medley by mentioning the "Four Bs" of their 60s influences: Beatles, Beach Boys, *Bee Gees*! (THOSE! Bee Gees!), and of course Burt Bacharach.

I would rec Nick's Bryter Layter album. The songs are vivid and so emotional, and the backing arrangements suit him well. At least, take a listen to "Fly", "Poor Boy", "Northern Sky", or "Hazey Jane I" - one of those might take your interest.
